My cat is scratching her ears raw. How can I stop it before the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 4 lbs

Recently my cat has been scratching near her ears a lot, and it's gotten to the point that she has scratched up her neck quite a bit. I have a vet appointment scheduled for Saturday (earliest they could get me in) but I wanted to know what I could do to treat it in the mean time

Poor Angie. Do not put anything in her ear. It sounds like she has an ear infection, but her ear drum needs to be examined to make sure it's intact before putting in any medication. Only the vet can do this. My recommendation is to put a cone on her so she cannot scratch her ear any longer. You can get one at a pet store or make one at home. I will put a link below on how to make one at home. I hope this helps! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ffR-LzyW1M
