Kitten has a red, swollen neck wound. Is it serious before the vet?

Hi so my kitten has a small wound on its neck about the size of a fingernail. Don’t know how she caused it but it doesn’t seem to bleeding but I had been it’s quite red and looks swollen. I’ve dabbed it and flushed it with cold clean water and left it. She’s due on the vets on Tuesday. Should I be worried about her or just keep it clean and keep an eye on it till Tuesday?

Poor Stella. I'm concerned that the wound is red and swollen, which can indicate infection. For now, keep an eye on it and take her into the vet on Tuesday to have it treated. If you see pus, then it is definitely infected and try to get her into the vet sooner. I would just keep it clean, do not put anything on it at the moment. I hope this helps!

Hello! The main issue is that the area is likely getting infected, and she ideally needs to be started on some medications, so getting her to a vet as soon as possible is in her best interest. In the meantime, just keep the area as clean as you can, with warm water.

A week ago started. Ask for what to do. Injection given by vet doctor this Wednesday. Wound washed daily with hyrogen peroxide. Swelling n inflammation n antibiotics given 3times a day. Please advice. Tq.
Surgery may be needed to clean the edges and see if the wound can be repaired. Often times, this does require some times for the tissue to declare itself before this is done to see what tissue will be healthy to save. All you can do until it is ready for surgery is keep it clean and stay on antibiotics to prevent an infection. Rechecks should be frequent to determine when surgery would be best. Cats are the best at healing and granulating in new tissue as long as the infection stays under control.

The picture doesn't look like a very serious wound to me. I would continue to watch it. If it starts bleeding, if the swelling gets larger, if there is a creamy yellow/white/green discharge, or if Venus is not eating well, she may need to see a vet for treatment.

My kitty had been outside and has gotten a small hole in his cheek. Now the sore is getting puffy and red around it.
Oh no, poor Thor! He could have been injured or could have been bitten by another animal. Given that the area is now swollen and red, it sounds like it infected and Thor has to see a vet as soon as possible. He will need the area cleaned and oral antibiotics for the infection. Please take him into a vet asap.

Sore on my cats neck
Poor Coco! Gently clean it with warm water and antiseptic soap. Keep the wound clean and dry, and monitor it for signs of infection. If you see redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, or pus, then it is infected and she will need to see the vet for antibiotics to treat it. I hope this helps!

Today I found puncture wounds at my cats neck, it looks like he's been bitten. It is very swollen, and he is acting very ill, no appetite not drinking, can't take him to a vet because it's Saturday. Is there anything I can do to treat this?
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! You could try to keep it clean but aside from that, I am afraid that he will need veterinary care. Puncture or bite wounds can get infected rather quickly and result in a fever which may be why he is not eating. They can form abscesses that require local treatment and antibiotics. You could perhaps consider taking him to an emergency veterinarian who is open over the weekend. Good luck and have a great day!

Please have your kitten seen by a vet right away. That wound looks extremely painful and will require pain medication and antibiotics. The kitten will need to have the wound cleaned out by the vet and will likely need sutures/bandaging of the area. Pain medication meant for people can be toxic to kittens and should not be used without checking with your vet. If you cannot keep the kitten and don’t know anyone who will take on his care and vet expenses, please contact local animal shelters and rescue groups so that he can get vet care asap. I would get him in sooner than Friday to have that seen. The fluid can be drained with a needle so that the swelling can go down without compromising the suture line. I worry that if it continues to swell, the skin could slough and leave him with a large open wound. Call your vet tomorrow and find out if he can be seen.

I think it looks to be healing OK. You can continue treating it as you have been. It would be best if you could get her to a vet as she probably needs oral antibiotics and anti-inflammatories to get this to clear up and minimize the swelling.

Poor Kitty! It sounds like he may have gotten into a fight with another cat or some other animal - this is fairly common for cats who roam outdoors. It's always best to have any wound checked by a vet since he may need antibiotics to treat any infection that remains. But if he is acting normal today, eating and drinking and wanting to play, and the swelling seems to be going down, it's possible that it may heal on its own. If you opt not to take him to the vet right now, I would recommend using a soft washcloth to keep the wound clean and monitor closely for the next few days to make sure that it heals.
