My dog has a bump near his groin. Should I take him to the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 2 years and 3 months old | 97 lbs

Found a bump/blister on my dogs skin tonight near his groin. He doesn’t seem to be too bothered by it. Licking is minimal. Appetite and energy levels are normal. Not sure if I need to take him in to see his vet. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. The area looks bruised and angry. You should clean the skin with antiseptic solution twice daily for 3-4 days (for example 4% chlorhexidine). If the bump / blister ( it almost look like inflamed nipple on the picture you posted) does not get better or if it starts to bother Apollo, you should take him to your local vets for an appointment
