Is it common for poop to obscure puppies on a pregnant dog's X-ray?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pug | Female | unspayed | 23 lbs

My pug tied on June 26 and 27. So, she could be 54 / 56 day's now. I took her for an x-ray yesterday. The vet said, "it looks like 2 possibly 3." I wasn't informed of, having her bowels emptied prior. So, she apparently had a lot of poop in there lol. I'm of course no expert, but my eyes kind of see more in there. Is that a common issue?

Hi, if you have a picture of the X rays please feel free to repost. In general, poo does not pose a problem as it is lower in radiopacity than bones. It is normally recommended to count heads and spines. Hope this helps !
