Puppy tested positive for hookworm was given a dewormer but now my senior dog who shares backyard with puppy has had diarrhea for two days. He’s eating normally but drinking a lot of water, we gave him canned pumpkin which seemed to help but his diarrhea has returned. It is Sunday so I cannot take him to his regular vet, should I take him to the emergency vet instead or just administer water and monitor him until his vet opens on Monday?

Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Sentinel is effective against hookworms, so Leon is protected against this parasite. Diarrhea can be caused by gastrointestinal infection, food indiscretion, pancreatitis and more. Offer Leon bland food for a few days (cooked lean meat with rice or pasta) and get him a probiotic for dogs (for example FortiFlora by Purina). However, if after a few days he is not any better, you should take him to your local vets for an appointment. Also, monitor the amount of water he drinks. He should be given free access to water but if you notice that he is consistently drinking more than usual, he should have a blood test to check his kidneys function. The last part of your post did not come through, so please, re-send your post again on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach if you have any more questions.
