My dog woke up squinting one eye. Is this an emergency?

How can I help my dog stop squinting in one eye? He woke up this morning squinting his right eye. I used a wipe on it, and he let me wipe. It stayed squinting. This evening, I tried to (1) pour water on it and (2) wipe cotton ball with water across it and he would not let me. Instead of squinting, he’s keeping his eye more shut than this morning. He was little bit less active today. His eyes were fine yesterday, only today did his eye cause him problems.

I see what you mean about Tuxedo's eye squinting in the picture. Typically squinting means the eye is painful with light, and this can be caused by an injury to the eye or an eye infection. Any eye problem is an emergency because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. I would take him into a vet immediately to get this diagnosed and treated. I hope this helps.

Squinting of the eyes is normally associated with eye or facial pain, a common cause of which is inturned or stray eye lashes which contact and scratch the surface of they eye. Given this is a painful condition I would recommend you get him checked as soon as possible. Flushing the eyes with sterile saline eye wash 3-4times a day can provide some temporary relief until you can get him checked out

Cat's eye is glossed over and he is squinting.
I see what you mean. He could be squinting because the light is painful to his eye, and it may be he has injured his eyes or has an eye infection. Any eye problem is an emergency because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. I'd take him into a vet right away to get checked out. Best of luck.

Hi! My dog was hot on the eye 4 days ago and it swells for two days. Now i noticed that his eye is squinting(ocular trauma). Is this treatable? Does his eye will go back to its normal condition?
It can be treated, but your dog needs to see a vet immediately. Any problem with the eye should be considered an emergency because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. The only way to know for sure if his eye can be treated is to have him seen by a vet now, please take him into one right away.

Looks like my dog might have an eye infection or got something in her eyes
This could be an eye infection (and, looking at the photo the eye lids are very swollen there is a discharge and your dog is squinting because it is painful) caused either by bacteria, inflammation, or possibly even mechanical damage caused by ingrown hairs , or eye lashes. Eye problems are always emergencies. You will need to take Summer to a veterinarian or Pet ER for an exam now, please.

There is something wrong with my dogs eye he was find then 10 mins later there was something wrong with his eye please help me im really worry and cant afford to take him to the vet right now :(
I am sorry to see that Tank’s eye is abnormal. The squinting and elevated third eyelid and slight swelling concerns me about the possibility of a scratch to the eyeball, however that can not be diagnosed with a picture. If the eye is still squinting and painful tomorrow then he needs to be seen by a veterinarian. If the eye does have a scratch it should be treated with antibiotics to prevent an infection and further chance of damage to the eye. Can dogs get sleepy eyed like us with not opening eyes wide when tired? Romeo got groomed today and just seems sleepy. He is fine otherwise. His eyes are not red and is not pawing or doesn’t appear in pain. Anything to watch out for?
Dogs can certainly be slightly squinty as they fall asleep or for a few seconds after waking up, but they shouldn't squint or hold their eyes differently even if tired. Squinting is a sign of eye pain in dogs. The fact that Romeo was groomed today makes me wonder if he got a bit of water, shampoo, or hair in his eyes during his beauty regimen. Shih Tzus in particular are prone to corneal abrasions and ulcers simply due to the conformation of their eyes. It would be ideal to get him checked out right away to make sure there isn't a bigger issue at hand, as some eye issues can worsen dramatically if left untreated. If you elect to keep an eye on him instead, be sure to put an e-collar (cone) on him to prevent any scratching or rubbing at his eyes when you aren't watching him. My dog had been squinting a lot/having a hard time opening her eyes, especially the left. The fur below is damp too but no other visible discharge. I don't know when it started but Mom said it had been going on for some days already.
It sounds like Choco has a severe eye infection, and she needs to see a vet immediately. Any eye infection should be considered an emergency, as leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. The vet can confirm she has an eye infection, and can give her medication to treat it.
