My cat's eye is tearing with brown sticky discharge. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 5.5 lbs

Hello I noticed my cat’s right eye has been tearing up for the past couple of days with a buildup of brown mucus around her eye. Everything else appears to be normal, her eye is not red nor does she scratch it. I would clean the area with a damp cloth and it would look normal till a couple of hours later she would have a buildup of sticky brown eye mucus. I was wondering if anyone has any insight into what could be possibly wrong with her. Thank you

Toota is so cute!!!! What a beautiful face she has, I bet she is an absolute love. It could be she has an eye infection causing this discharge but I can't say for certain without seeing her in person. Any eye problem needs to be checked out by a vet as leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. Give her vet a call to make her an appointment. I hope this helps!
