Why is my kitten not eating, sneezing, and gagging frequently?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Maine Coon | Female | 4 months and 7 days old | 3 lbs

I have had a 4 month year old kitten for about a week which have eaten very little for the past week ..she’ll eat dry food but not the wet. She was raised on raw.. I gave a different brand but it wasn’t for kittens I think. Anyway off and on for the past week she’ll do this swallowing motion on occasion followed sometimes with a sneeze. It almost to me like it’s increasing with frequency. Any thoughts? Dianne and Samantha (kitty)

Hi Dianne. I hope you are doing well. It could be Samantha is suffering from a respiratory infection causing the sneezing and what sounds like could be a gag. A respiratory infection could lead to a loss of appetite, especially if she is congested and can't smell her food. A loss of appetite in a at can be very serious, so I think she needs to see a vet. The vet can diagnose what is causing her symptoms and can treat her. I'd take her into the vet in the morning. I hope this helps!
