My dog has ringworm near mouth. How to treat without her licking?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 1 year and 5 months old

My dog has a few spots of ringworms right above her mouth. What's the best way to treat this topically, since she can lick it almost immediately after anything is applied?

Hello. With lesions on or near the mouth, the easiest way to treat ringworm is with one of several antifungal medications that Maho will take by mouth. Anything topical, as you said, may be licked off, & because ringworm is contagious to other pets & people, you want to eliminate the organism as quickly as possible. Please see your veterinarian as soon as possible. Thanks for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
