My cat with a tumor on pain meds is acting better. Is it temporary?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered

My vet told me my cat has a tumor and probably doesn’t have much longer to live. He’s gone down hill quickly over the past month. She gave him pain medication when she sent him home with me so he would be comfortable while making end of life decisions. He’s been acting more like himself since and I just wanted clarification that it’s because of the pain medication before I give myself hope that he will get better.

It's likely the pain medication making Tiger act like his normal self. This will take away his pain and keep him comfortable. Unfortunately this won't be a permanent change, and there will likely be a point where he goes downhill again. Enjoy this time with him now, but I would be ready to say goodbye at some point soon. I know you will never be truly ready, but you should be prepared. It will be what is best for him. I'm sorry you are in this position. I hope this helps.
