Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | neutered | 80 lbs
My dog has been experiencing loose stools for 3 days. He has been going to the bathroom in the house at night and when we’re at work. He goes to the door more often to go out, it seems almost every 3-4 hours. He is eating his normal food plus white rice and he is drinking water. His energy and temperament has also remained normal. He does seem to get an upset stomach during times of stress or anxiety for him, but I don’t know what would be causing that now. Does he need to go to the vet?

Since he is going every 3-4 hours it might be a good idea to take him to the vet to prescribe medications to help resolve the diarrhea, especially since he is going in the house at night. If you wanted to try some treatment at home, you could withhold food for 12 hours and then try a small amount of a bland diet, like boiled chicken and white rice. If the diarrhea has improved then continue the bland diet for a few days and slowly transition back to his normal food. You could also add a dog probiotic to his diet. Proviable Forte Kit has a probiotic capsule and paste for diarrhea. If the diarrhea continues then he should definitely been seen by your vet.

At this pint, if your vet has not prescribed antibiotic yet, it wuld be a good time to start as he is probably suffering from a gastrointestinal infection. Until you can take him to the vet you may give him an anti diarrhea paste such as Pro-Kolin.

It is definitely a good sign that he is active and playing normally. Diarrhea is a common problem with puppies and is usually self-limiting (will go away on its own). It doesn't appear to be serious right now, but it's always possible that it could be the start of something serious. If Koda has any of the following, then he should see a vet: 1) Blood in diarrhea 2) Very watery diarrhea 3) Starts acting very depressed 4) Stops eating or drinking for longer than 24 hours. 5) Diarrhea lasts longer than three days. You can help him get through this by feeding bland food (boneless chicken and rice is good). Feed small portions (1/2 cup or less) three times a day. You can also add probiotics to the food (can get this at the pet store), which has demonstrated some efficacy for improving diarrhea. Ensure fresh, clean water is always available. I hope this helps and Koda gets better soon.

Oh the poor puppy! How lovely of you to take her in! I would be very concerned that she hasn't pooped in two days, and this severe constipation could be caused by a significant burden of intestinal worms. That would also cause her the diarrhea the day before. She certainly isn't healthy enough to get vaccines if she isn't pooping, and it's extremely important that she is seen by a vet right away since she hasn't pooped in two days. I would take her into an ER vet or find a vet on call to see her ASAP.
