Dog dizzy, can't walk after ear infection shots. Is it normal?

She’s been quiet the past few days I took her to the vet and was told that she has an ear infection like insects in her ears so she was given 2 injections one antibiotic and the other one is for insects yesterday and today but today after the injection she bacme very dizzy and unable to walk , is this normal ? Will she live until the morning ? There isn’t any vet clinics open now . She eats and drinks normally .

No, this does not sound normal. The ear infection may have affected her middle or inner ear, causing Star to have problems walking and with her balance. She should be ok until the morning, I would have her stay in a crate tonight so that she doesn't fall off something and hurt herself. I would bring her back into the vet in the morning. This depends on the drug that was given but it is possibly a side effect. Also remember that ear infections themselves can cause lethargy or “off” behavior as can the stress of visiting the vet. Don’t panic unless you see vomiting, diarrhea, facial swelling, collapse, or other worrisome signs. If you’re seeing any of those, get to an emergency vet IMMEDIATLEY as these could be signs of a severe allergic reaction. Best of luck and I hope Baby is feeling better soon!

The inability to walk strait could be related to the vestibular syndrome caused by the perforated ear drum and infection, this would not explain the second symptom though, which is more likely to be related to a brain condition and can cause the other vestibular symptoms too.

Middle ear infection would be the most common cause for these symptoms at this age, but there is a small chance that it could be a brain condition as well. if she is not responding to the antibiotic treatment i believe taking her to a specialist is the right thing to do.

My dog has been acting strange for a week, in his left ear there seems to be dirt looking matter in it, he can't stand straight with out wobbling, walks like he is drunk or off balance. what is wrong with him, how can I cure him?
Hi. Poor Bo Luke. Sounds like he most likely has an ear infection. Sometimes these can be in the middle or inner ear, or be bad enough to spread there from outter ear. This can then cause pain, lethargy, swelling, head tilting, and walking as if drunk/ to one side. He will need an exam, ear exam, ear cytology to see if yeast or bacterial, then put on the correct medications, and pain medications! With these signs, I would take him to ER tonight. He is pprobably pretty uncomfortable. Good luck

I am sorry to hear about Nina. Unless she has a history of ear infections, then this is not likely her issue. Many dogs don't need their ears cleaned at all as the ear in a healthy dog doesn't usually need to be cleaned. Signs of ear infection include an odor and discharge from the ears, redness and pain of the ear canal, shaking the head, scratching and rubbing the ears. If she hasn't had these signs, this is not likely due to her ears and she should see the vet for an examination.

I have a 2 year old American Bulldog that we rescued back in May. He was acting normal yesterday. He has an ear infection and we have been giving him antibiotics. Today he barely moves and won’t even budge when we call for him or shows no eye contact
No, it’s not really common unless the rear infection has ruptured the ear drum and is really down in the middle ear, which is very very rare. I would be concerned that another problem is going on. I would recommend a follow up appointment with your veterinarian. They may want to perform some blood work for more information. Good luck, I hope he improves soon.

My dog has just started falling over and looks like she has had a stroke I've checked her ears and there appears to be nothing wrong there
There is something called Old Dog Vestibular Disease, that causes dogs to suddenly appear to be totally unable to balance, be nauseous, spine in circles, or even be unable to stand. This happens for no particular reason, and usually improves over a few weeks with patience and supportive care (anti-nausea medication and fluid/nutritional support as needed). It is important to check for middle ear infections (which requires the otoscope at the vet clinic), general blood work and thyroid levels, and do an exam to make sure she doesn't have signs of other neurologic issues that would suggest a brain tumor. So, I'd advise keeping her safe tonight by blocking stairs, removing water boils, etc and taking her to the vet tomorrow to be checked out.

There can be numerous reasons that this may be happening to Zooey and most likely you will need to have her checked out by your vet to determine the cause. She might be suffering from an ear infection that is deep enough to affect her equilibrium, she may have some weakness in one or more kegs caused by arthritis or an injury, she may have arthritis in her spine. These are just a few of the possible causes. I would recommend a general exam for her to see if a cause can be detected.

Hello, sorry to hear about Dora. Its likely that Dora has suffered a middle ear or inner ear injury and could have peripheral vestibular disease. She should be examined by a veterinarian to look into her ear and confirm that her ear drum may be ruptured. This could have happened due to and underlying disease such as an external ear infection, anti-nausea medications, and occasionally cats may need appetite stimulants. Dora will likely need medications for some time to be put in her ear and this could take up to 3-4 weeks to recover. Sorry to hear about the complications with Dora's treatment. You should have her evaluated again by her veterinarian.
