Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Female | unspayed | 10 years and 5 months old | 12.1 lbs
Hello, I misread my Shih Tzu’s prescription for Temaril-P. She weighs 12 pounds. The directions said to take twice a day every 12 hours for 4 days, and then take 1 tablet every other day after that. Instead she was given 1 tablet every 12 hours for 6 days instead of 4, and after that she was given 1 tablet a day and now the medication is gone. Should I worry? I tried to call my vet, but they are closed. She is acting the same as always, which is lazy.

Hello. I do not think you have too much to worry about because she was not on this medication for a long enough time to need a long withdrawl of the drug. You see, with steroids, after a certain amount of time it is best to discontinue them in a decreasing manner. 10 days is not a significant time to be on the medication & you did decrease the dose 50% for the last 4 days. If your vet is open tomorrow, just call to make sure they do not want you to pick up a few more pills just to finish off the weaning period, but otherwise, there will be no problems with how you gave her the pills. She will be fine. Thanks for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
