Why is my cat drooling green, bleeding, not eating? Is it stomatitis?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Longhair | Female | spayed | 2 years and 11 months old | 20 lbs

My cat has been drooling thick green mucous excessively from her mouth, has inflamed gums and bleeding in her mouth so she’s been having trouble eating, and she hasn’t been able to groom herself. I think she has stomatitis?

Poor Faye! It definitely sounds like something is wrong. It's possible that she may have stomatitis, or she could have an infected tooth, an injury of some kind in her mouth, or even some type of oral tumor. I would recommend taking her to the vet to be seen as soon as possible, since it sounds like she's extremely painful and uncomfortable. Your veterinarian can do a careful oral exam to help diagnose the problem and see what kind of treatment is needed.
