My Pomeranian mix has spots on her leg. Could they be bug bites?

Pet's info: Dog | Pomeranian | Female | unspayed | 2 years and 1 month old | 6 lbs

What are these? The bigger one is under my dogs front leg and the smaller one above the leg. She is a 2 year old pomeranian mix. I am very worried.

I got your pictures from Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach customer service, thank you for doing that. Those look like bug bites to me in the pictures. I'd just keep an eye on them for now. If they get bigger, appear infected, or start to bother Hazel, then I would have her seen by a vet. I hope this helps!

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Boop by Petco. It could definitely be a small bug bite, or even a pimple or an ingrown hair, although it doesn’t look very inflamed. Since he was recently groomed, he could have gotten knicked by the clippers in that area, making it slightly reddened. As long as he doesn’t seem bothered by it and it isn’t painful to the touch, and he is otherwise healthy, I don’t think he needs to go to the vet right now. I would recommend monitoring the spot to see if it changes in appearance at all (color, size) or if more spots appear anywhere on his body. If this occurs, Cash may need to be evaluated by a veterinarian who can examine the spot more closely and determine if it has become infected. I hope this helps!

My puppy keeps biting his leg and has hair loss where he is biting. Also has hair loss around his left eye and nose. What could be wrong? It does look infected where he keeps biting. He is only 5 months old.

My dog had round and oval spots on one of his hind legs. He did catch a squirrel earlier today and had some scratches on his face that I cleaned up. Hubby thinks this is from that but I am not convinced. He has been licking his hind legs recently
Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! From your pictures it looks like Blu has hives. Hives are usually due to an allergic reaction to something in the environment or an insect bite. Hives are ideally treated with steroids and antihistamines. Read this article about Benadryl. My dog has a rash or bumps all over his back right leg and I fear that it might be spreading outward
Thank you for contacting Boop by Petco with your question about Autumn. She could have a rash from an allergic reaction or she could have a skin infection. I would have to see her in person in order to make a diagnosis, so I recommend you take her into the vet. The vet can diagnose what is causing her skin issue and can treat her. I was holding her & then I felt something, it was a scab. Under it was this red spot, it’s not a bump. It’s not bleeding or hurting. I cut the hair around it including the scab to get a better look & also cleaned the area. I bathed her a few days ago
Hello and thank you for reaching out to Boop by Petco. She definitely could have gotten a bug bite in that area that caused her to itch/bite at that area, creating a scab. If it is the only small area, I'd say a single bug bite is more likely than something like allergies, which tend to affect a diffuse part of the body. As long as she is acting normally at home (not continuously itching, and she is eating/drinking normally), I recommend monitoring her at home. You can check that site daily to see if it is getting smaller and less red. If you notice that it is getting bigger, or you notice the development of more similar spots, or she is licking/biting at it, I recommend having her seen by your veterinarian. I can see the small, raised, slightly red hairless lump on Hazel's paw in the photo. This may be a bug bite, localized skin infection, or a mass (which is less likely in younger dogs). I recommend having the area examined by a vet to determine the underlying cause and begin the appropriate treatment. In the meantime, you can get Hazel an E-collar or "cone" to prevent her licking the area and causing further trauma and irritation.

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! It is hard to see the skin in your pictures but it looks like a rash or comedones. If the reddish black things on her skin flakes off or are loose, wet them on a white tissue. If they melt away to a red streak that is flea poop. Flea dips and shampoos are NOT preventatives for fleas and the fleas that hatch on the carpet will jump right back on the pet. Fleas do not lay eggs on the pet but on the carpet. Bed bugs do not live on animals. I recommend a flea preventative like oral Nexgard, Simparica, Bravecto or topical Advantix ii or the Seresto collar. If there are no live fleas or flea dirt then she likely has a secondary skin infection or rash from an allergic reaction the the fleas. I would have her seen by your Vet so she can be provided relief. Also it looks like she has a paw infection which could be from environmental or food allergies. Good luck!

If this were my pet I would monitor this first to see if it goes away. It is hard to say if this is a bug bite because of all the hair and no close up to see if there is a small bite wound. You can check it yourself to see if you notice a small hole there, and then you have your answer. However, if you are unsure or can't find a hole, then its ok to wait and monitor this to see if it decreases in size and resolves on its own within the next 1-2 weeks. As long as it isn't causing any discomfort to Phoebe, then I wouldn't rush her in just yet. You can apply a very small amount of Neosporin to the area also. If it does not reduce in size or resolve within 1-2 weeks, then it should be checked by your vet to gather samples from the growth so that it can be properly classified. I hope that things work out well for your pet Phoebe and hopefully this is a nother weird bug bite that will resolve on its own. Best of luck to you both! Take care.
