My young French Bulldog is pregnant. Is she too young to carry?

Pet's info: Dog | French Bulldog | Female | unspayed | 28 lbs

Hello, I have a French Bulldog, and at six or seven month she went into heat, and mated with my other dog. I am concerned that given that French bulldogs have issues with pregnancy, and her young age, she will not be able to survive the birth or carry the puppies, especially at her age. Is there anything I can do?

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Zoe. You could have her spayed asap, which would terminate the pregnancy and prevent any future pregnancies. Or you could continue the pregnancy, but have regular visits with the vet, and start saving money in case she needs an emergency c-section. It's up to you. I hope this helps!

If it is early pregnancy, she can be spayed. Some vets may also carry medication to abort the pregnancy. Having a litter prior to physical maturity can permanently stunt the growth. He may also see issues with the bitch being too immature to care for the puppies. My daughter has just found my 8 month old french bull dog girl and my 6 month old french bull dog stuck together my girl is in season. Is there a morning after pill or would she not get pregnant with the male being so young.
There is every chance she will go in pup - once the male is able to mate then he is likely fertile. There are a number of options available to abort unwanted pups or to neuter the female - you should contact your regular vet as soon as they are open to discuss what is available in your area (not all medications are licensed worldwide - Europe/UK have a medication which can be used in the first few weeks after mating; generally withheld until she is out of heat in case they mate again!)

Ideally female dogs are not bred until they are 2 years old but there's nothing you can do about this now. she may not be mentally mature to care for puppies but she could do just fine. You will need to feed her appropriately but it may impact her over-all growth. Also, have radiographs taken so you know how many puppies to expect. Small breed dogs are more prone to problems giving birth so you need to know how many puppies to expect. What do i do if someone let my female dog get pregnant in her 1st heat cycle? She is approx 8.5 months old. She is pit mix.
You can spay Jadyn now, which will terminate the pregnancy and prevent her from having puppies in the future. The other option is to allow the pregnancy to continue, but have regular visits with the vet to make sure everything is ok during it, and to discuss signs of when veterinary help is absolutely necessary during the labor process.

Hello. It may be quite dangerous to abort at this late stage of pregnancy. Plus, many veterinarians will ethically not be comfortable doing so. While it is recommended to wait until a dog's second or third heat to get them pregnant, there are dogs who get pregnant on their first heat and are fine. Chances are she will be ok, but I would schedule regular checks up with her vet to make sure the pregnancy is progressing well. In addition, when it's around time for her to give birth, you need to familiarize yourself with signs of dystocia (difficulty giving birth) so you can seek immediate veterinary care as needed. Chihuahuas tend to have a lot of problems giving birth due to their small size, and frequently need c sections. Given her age and small size, I think it would be best for her safety to follow the recommendations and have her spayed. If you want to keep the puppies, you need to start saving in case she needs an emergency c section. Those can cost thousands. Best of luck.

It isn't ideal to get pregnant so young; however, she can still do it and this will not affect her growth in any way. There isn't a safe method to terminate pregnancy other than spaying them. There also isn't a way to guarantee that Millie will be able to have the puppies. I would recommend discussing this scenario with Millie's vet. The vet can help you determine the best course of action. If she is pregnant and you elect not to have her spayed, it would be best to save money for a possible emergency c-section and know the available vet should an emergency arise.
