Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua (Smooth Coat) | Female | 8 years and 3 months old | 10 lbs
I spoke with Dr. Laura G she couldnt see my Q . I found Poppy on the street & took her in, had injuries to her eye and mainly left rear leg. We took her a Vet who told me she wasnt sure if her leg/eye was damaged intentionally but her leg could have been genetic...now she walks on the top of her foot and toes are curled. It did form a pad. There's no muscle on her hind leg, bones healed wrong. I just want to know because i dont have $ to amputate is there a type of boot to help her?shes 8yrs old

Hello. Thank you for the additional information. It is possible that Poppy was born this way, but the important point is the description of the pad on the top of the foot. You see, the only reason to consider amputation is if Poppy was self-mutilating the foot by dragging it. But if she is managing, then there is no need to do much of anything. A boot might help, but may also not be necessary. I wish I could see a video of how she walks & uses the leg. But if you just keep an eye on things, she may do just fine. And thank you for rescuing her, & clarifying things for me.
