My dog was bitten by another dog at the park. Should I go to the vet?

My dog was bitten by another dog at the dog park. I am not sure if I need to bring him in or not so I though I’d ask before so.

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Natsu and for providing pictures, they are very helpful. Poor boy! My concern is the swelling I see on the bridge of his nose, and dog bites can become infected. I do think it's best for him to see the vet to get pain medication and antibiotics. I would take him into a vet now. I hope this helps!

Hi! I am so sorry to hear that Roscoe is injured! The wound appears to be inflamed and as dog bites or any deep wound often become infected. I recommend taking him to your vet in the next 24 hours, sooner if he seems to feel poorly or if he has other wounds. They will likely clip the hair, clean the wound and see how extensive it is. If they think it necessary, they will recommend antibiotics and/or pain/swelling medication. Keep an eye on it after you visit to ensure it heals appropriately and he does not lick at it. I hope this is helpful and he feels better soon!

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Boop by Petco. I'm so sorry to hear about Darby, I can imagine that was very scary for both of you! I would recommend having Darby seen by a veterinarian as soon as you can. Dog bite wounds can be very extensive, beyond what you can see on the surface. There can be significant soft tissue injury that you cannot see, and a wound that looks like a small puncture can actually have deep pocketing and tissue damage. Also, dog bite wounds are very prone to becoming infected, as the bacteria in a dog's mouth can infect your dog's skin and prevent the wounds from healing. Your veterinarian will likely want to sedate Darby so he/she can clip the hair around the wounds and clean them out. Based on Darby's physical exam, your veterinarian may also recommend x-rays to look for evidence of other trauma, such as lung contusions (bruises) or fractures. While walking our dog, another dog stuck their mouth under a fence and we believe it our dog. She was bleeding. Not sure if she needs to see a vet or not. It's possible she bit herself, but not sure.

I have adopted a pet dog 4 months ago but was unable to give it injection of rabies, it was missing from the last 7 days. When I found it I saw a dog bite on its neck and pus is coming from his neck. what to do now?
Hi and thanks for using Boop by Petco! It sounds like the bite wound has become infected. Bite wounds typically require the attention of a veterinarian. If the wound is deep enough, it may require stitches and prescription antibiotics if it is infected. Depending on your local animal control and rabies laws, your puppy may need a rabies vaccine now and then a booster in 6 months. I would be sure to have Puppy seen by a veterinarian right away so he can have this wound evaluated.

Hi, our 7th-month-old husky was bitten at the dog park. Do you think we should take her to the emergency vet? Above the eye and cheek are the worst. And she has 3 punctures on her neck.
Oh, poor Ellie. Yes, I do think she should be seen by an emergency veterinarian. Most bite wounds will get infected, so much better to prevent it then having her get sick. Also, I am solute that she wound be much more comfortable with some pain medications. Speaking from experience, bite wounds hurt and even more so the day after! Thanks for using Boop by Petco! I highly recommend that you have both of your pups evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible. These wounds can get infected very easily. Also, it is crucial to check if any of these wounds need further local therapy such as stitches. Your veterinarian could also start pain medications as usually lacerations like that are painful. My dog got nipped at the dog park a few days ago. We have been treating it with hydrogen peroxide and neosporin and it’s seemed to been fine. Now it is starting to ooze. Are there any treatments we should try?
I am sorry to hear about your dog! I would recommend bringing him in to his vet to examine the wound if it is not improving. It probably needs to be shaved and cleaned (I cannot see the actual wound in the photo so assume it is covered in fur and the wet area on the cheek). Often bites are puncture wounds and are deep and sometimes do require antibiotics to treat infection.

My poor Buddy was attacked by a large adult female pit bull, he seemed to be ok at first but its been several hours and his front right leg is swelling and he is in obvious pain
Hello and thank you for contacting Boop by Petco. Bite wounds are very dangerous, particularly, when a large dog with powerful jaws bites smaller dog. The main damage is under the skin, the extend of trauma cannot be appropriated by only looking at the punctures. What's is more bite wounds are painful and almost always get infected. Please, take Buddy to your local vets as soon as possible as he may be in serious trouble.

I have been looking after this dog for about a week. After a couple days after I was watching over her, I noticed this one wound on the side of her head. I don’t know if it’s something I should worry about or if it’s something I should definitely go
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! It is hard to say from the picture but the wound looks superficial. Because it is on the head I would be worried he is causing himself trauma due to something else, like an ear infection. If he is scratching the area he is likely uncomfortable and I do recommend taking him to a vet for relief. If not, you can try cleaning the area with a mild soap and water (no more than 2 times daily) and make sure the area is dry after. Good luck and kisses to the pup!

He was bit by dog and had a lump and wound.. Vet asked me to apply a cream and ice pack for a couple of days and if it didn't improve.. Remove it via syringe or cut. I just noticed pus coming out of it.. I have dressed it with betadine cotton n banda
Hi there and thank you for using Boop by Petco to address your concern. I would recommend having this treated sooner rather than later and get in as soon as you can to have this taken care of. This appears to be an abscess and has ruptured. This needs to be drained and flushed out with an antiseptic solution as well as having him placed on oral antibiotics.
