My puppy won't come inside after potty. Is it okay to carry him?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My puppy doesn't want to come back inside the home once he finishes his business. I have to carry him back. Is that OK?

Yes, that's okay do do if you need to. If you want to work on getting him to come back inside willingly, I would suggest keeping a stash of tasty treats just inside the door. Every time you get back inside after a potty break, give him a treat - even if you had to carry him back. It won't take very many repetitions of this before he figures out that coming back inside is pretty great, since he always get something tasty as soon as he comes in - and he'll start following you back on his own. :)
