Dog in pain, panting, restless. Vets closed. How to help my dog?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 15 lbs

My dog is panting a lot and she looks like her legs are bothering her and she seems in pain. Last night she was very restless too. Is there any way I can relieve that pain? All the vets in my area are closed or extremely busy

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Rouge. Poor girl. Unfortunately there are no OTC pain relievers you can give her. Many human ones are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. Rest her tonight. No running, jumping, or playing. Take her out to toilet on a leash, and bring her right back in when she's done. If she is still acting this way in the morning, take her into the vet. I hope this helps!

Poor Rufus! Unfortunately there are no OTC pain medications you can give him, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. I'd take him into a vet as soon as possible to be checked out and get pain medication. If he's extremely painful, I'd rush him into an ER vet. Until he sees the vet, rest him as much as possible. Take him out to potty on a leash, and bring him right back in when he's done. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

My dog got her leg stuck in the door, and now it's tender. It's not broken but seems sore. Is there an over the counter pain relief I can give her?
Unfortunately no. Many human pain medications are toxic to dogs, and can be fatal if given. I recommend resting her for the next 48 hours. No running, jumping, or playing. Take her out to toilet on a leash, and bring her right back in when she's done. If she still appears painful after this time, then I would take her into the vet for an exam. The vet can diagnose where the pain is coming from, and can dictate a treatment plan for it. She may also benefit from some pain medications, which the vet can prescribe.

Hello I have a pomperian that's in pain her hip is hurt and she is waking on her two front legs and right hide leg. We cannot move her unless she cries loudly. What can I give her for pain. Her vet is closed for the weekend. Aspirin isnt helping her.
First off, do not give Sadie aspirin. It can cause internal bleeding and kidney damage, and it is never recommended to give to a dog unless strictly prescribed by a vet. There are no safe OTC pain relievers for dogs. Many are toxic to dogs, and can be fatal if given. I would call around to find another vet who is open and who can see her, as she sounds extremely painful. Until you find a vet who is open, keep her quiet and rested, and do not move her unless it's necessary.

I can’t get to my vet until morning. But I have a dog with a possible dog bite on side of his neck. Not bleeding much, and doesn’t appear to have gone into muscle but is fully through the fur/skin layer. What can I give for pain until morning?

Many human ones are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. You can try putting a cold compress on his neck where he got the bite to see if that helps with his pain. My dog seems to be in pain. She cries when she adjusts her position or when handled gently, and is more restless than usual. How do we identify what is wrong, and is there a way we can make her feel better? Our vet is closed today due to a blizzard,
If there hasn’t been an injury and she’s urinating and defecating normally she may have neck or back pain. This can be from a bulging intervertebral disc. You can do some gentle massage to see if you can locate the area of pain. Massage will relax her muscles and relive the pain from muscle spasms. You can also use some heat over her back and neck. It’s ok to give aspirin for pain as long as she’s eating and drinking. It can cause stomach upset so I never give it unless they are eating. There is a section in this website that has information on common over the counter medications and the dosage. Please take her in tomorrow if she’s not better. They will be able to determine the source of her pain and treat her appropriately. Thanks for using Boop by Petco to help you care for Flower.

My great dane is having pain in his rear right hip area and is crying when he tries to move. I don't think it's a life threatening emergency but he seems to be in a lot of pain. What can I do for him tonight and then take him to the vet in the morn
Oh no, poor Tank! Unfortunately, there are not OTC pain medications you can give. Many human ones are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. I would rest him tonight. Take him out to toilet on a lead only and bring him right back in when he's done. You can try icing his hips with bag of frozen veggies or an ice pack (be sure to wrap the package in a towel to protect his skin) to see if that helps him more comfortable. You can leave this ice pack on for 5-10 minutes at a time. Keep him as quiet as possible, and try to keep Tank from moving around. Take him into the vet first thing in the morning. My dog seems to have hurt her nail. She is restless and doesn’t seem to want to lie down. It is not bleeding. I’m not sure what to do. Will it heal on its own or do I need to do something?

That would be why she is restless and does not want to lie down. You don't want to leave her in pain, and unfortunately there are no OTC pain relievers you can give her. Many human ones are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. You will need to take her into the vet in the morning to get this treated. Do not feed her breakfast in the morning, as she will need to be sedated to have the nail removed. The vet can also give her pain medication. I hope this helps!

She sounds very painful, and it would be best if she saw a vet tonight. You can take her into an ER vet clinic; if you don't have one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website. Meibel damaged her dew claw today. It didn’t seem to hurt her all day and it never bled though I can see a dark pulp. But she is licking it a lot. I will take her into the vet but can I do something for pain in the meantime?

What you can do though that may help prevent further injury and pain is to keep her as quiet as possible and to try to keep her from licking at it until the appointment as that in itself can help with pain.
