My cat has yellow scabs. Is her ringworm diagnosis and meds right?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | 8 lbs

My cat has yellow scabs and lesions in her ears, on her mouth and nose and under on eye.. they have been getting worse in the last week and she has been to th vet twice.. they said it was ring worm even though th labs aren’t due for another 7 days.. she on Lamisil (oral) and Prednisone (oral) just began it today- I wonder if they got the diagnosis wrong because the lesions look like necrosis or otitis? Was wondering your opinion and if her current meds or appropriate?

Hello. I do question the prednisone, since it is immunosupressive & may not be the best choice for treating this now, unless there is so much inflammation & your vets are just trying to make Susan more comfortable. There is also nothing wrong with starting the Lamisil while awaiting culture results, however, I might have also started an antibiotic, too. I would speak with your veterinarian about your concerns & see if an antibiotic is appropriate & if Susan can tolerate the additional medications. Thanks for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
