Why does my cat have a lump on his nose after getting head stuck?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Longhair | Male | neutered | 9 lbs

Hello, my cat has a lump on the bride of his nose. It has shown up in the past 2 days. 2 days before I noticed the bump, he'd gotten his head stuck in the cat food bag and was flailing around to get it off so I'm wondering if it could be from him hitting his head on something. He isn't acting any differently, he's still eating and drinking.

Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It could be a hematoma that resulted from trauma to the nose. If Theo is acting as normal and the swollen area is not bothering him at all, you should monitor him at home. The hematoma should disappear in the next 5-7 days. However, if the lump gets bigger or becomes painful, you should take Theo to your local vets for an appointment.
