Is my 1-year-old dog's food protein content too high for him?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | West Highland White Terrier | Male | unneutered | 1 year old | 14 lbs

Hello. I would like to ask you a question about my puppy’s diet: I have a westie , 1 year-old. I feed it with Origen dog food. Has too much protein? Is it good for him? Really I am very confused...How much protein we should give them? Thank you.

Hello. Most dog food companies do a very good job balancing nutrients, and as long as your pet has a happy, healthy digestive system, this food should be fine for him. Most veterinarians encourage people to stick with the bigger well known companies, such as Hill's, Royal Canin & Purina, but I do not know of any issues with the Origen brand. So, do not worry about the protein levels in the food at this time. Concern yourself more with keeping Remy at a healthy weight as he continues to age.
