Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Male | unneutered | 13 years and 6 months old | 0 lbs

My 16 year old Yorky has been perscribed Pronefra 8 kg for his fading kidney and Loxicom 4kg for Arthritic pain ...he.s been on the later a long time but on Pronefra olny a few months .. Problem......he is now showing sickness and diarrhoea and had weight loss...all other tests come back good .... Question is should these drugs be taken together or can we use less pronefra and use paracetamol instead of Loxicom ....

Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. If Brino has kidney disease, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications. like Loxiom should be avoided. Even half a dose of Loxiom can have detrimental effect on kidneys if used chronically. So, the answer is absolutely yes, Brino should be weaned off Loxiom and paracetamol or other pain killers (tramadol, gabapentin, amantadine etc) should be used instead.
