Why are my kitten's stitches swollen and lumpy after a vet visit?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 4 months and 11 days old | 2 lbs

So my vet cut off a hairball that was back of my cats here. In doing so he cut his skin. I was not there so at home found the wound and the next day he stitched him up. I don’t have experience with stitches but it’s been a few days and the stitching seems swollen? Like a lump? Is this normal or should I take him back to the vet. My cats only 3 months old. (The yellow is betadine ointment he told me I could apply).

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Tub Tub and for providing pictures, they are very helpful. Poor boy. This happens. I have accidentally cut my own cat removing matts, I felt terrible! The area does look swollen, which doesn't appear normal. I would take him back into the vet to have this looked at. Best of luck.
