My dog has new lumps after vaccine. Re-biopsy or inflammation?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Miniature Poodle | Male | neutered | 11 years and 6 months old | 21 lbs

My dog was recently diagnosed (via biopsy) with panniculitis, I believe it was post-injection panniculitis because he recently received a vaccines in that area. Since the biopsy, I noticed that the lumps that I originally felt have decreased in size/disappeared, but I have been feeling some other different lumps around the general area. It has been almost 5 weeks since the vaccines were given. Should I have the vet re-biopsy the area or is this likely inflammation-related? Thanks!

Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. You should take Toby back to your vet for an appointment. If the lumps feel exactly the same as the original lump, a course of anti-inflammatory medications will be likely prescribed. However, if the lumps feel different and your vet is concerned that it may be something else going on, another biopsy will be recommended.
