My dog ate DOTS candy. Will he be okay? What symptoms to watch for?

my dog got into some DOTS chewy "gum Drops" candy. I am not sure how much he ate.. seems fine

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Sox. This should not cause him any problems as long as there is no xylitol in them. At most you should just see some stomach upset. I hope this helps!

This candy is not toxic for your pup. It's a lot of sugar, so he may be a bit hyperactive and may have some intestinal upset (vomiting or diarrhea). If he has vomiting or diarrhea that lasts for more than 24 hours, is very lethargic, or otherwise seems off, I would recommend a vet visit, but there's nothing you need to do right now. As long as there is no xylitol, the worst you may see is some minor stomach upset (vomiting or diarrhea). As long as Charlie is behaving normally, you should be fine. Minor stomach upset can typically be managed at home with a short fast followed by a bland diet fed in small, frequent amounts until symptoms resolve. Transition slowly to the regular diet afterwards. Symptoms that should be addressed by your veterinarian may include: persistent or worsening stomach upset, loss of appetite, abdominal pain or lethargy.

Most types of gummy bears should not cause any problems; however, you should check the ingredients to make sure that they don't contain [xylitol](https://www.petcoach.co/article/6-products-that-contain-xylitol/). If they don't, then Bogo should be just fine apart from some mild GI upset such as loose stool for a day or so. If they do contain xylitol, this is a more serious problem because this sweetener is toxic to dogs - so if this is on the ingredient list, I would recommend having him seen by an emergency vet right away so that they can induce vomiting and start treatment to try and prevent any problems.

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This specific brand of gum does not contain xylitol which is the concerning ingredient I was talking to you about in the previous message. Instead, it contains sorbitol which is not as toxic to dogs and he would to eat a lot of gum to have any stomach upset. I do not think that you need to worry to much about it if this is the kind of gum that you lost, especially since it may not be even at home for Jake to have access to. Good luck!

Hazel just ate a whole lollipop somebody left on the floor. Should I be worried for her health? What should I watch for
Thank you for using Boop by Petco! It really depends on what was in the lollipop. If the lollipop had some sort of gum or filling, it can cause an obstruction in her intestines. If she also ate the stick, that may cause problems such as a perforation, especially if the stick was plastic. The sugar content may make Hazel slightly hyper or shaky as well. I recommend bringing her to the vet if you are worried, as any of the conditions above are easier to treat the earlier they are diagnosed. You can also watch her for vomiting, lethargy, and loss of appetite. Good luck with Hazel!

My dog just ate about 5 fruit mentos I don't believe they have xylitol in them , will she be ok?
Hi there. As long as they don't contain xylitol, she should be just fine. She might have a mild upset stomach for the next day or so if she isn't used to eating human food like this, but otherwise I would not expect to see any problems.

Sorbitol is essentially safe and unlikely to cause your pet significant illness; it may, however, cause minor to moderate stomach upset. While these symptoms typically subside quickly and without treatment, contact your veterinarian if they persist for more than 24 hours. We cannot diagnose over the internet so it is always best for you to call your local vet and take Acorn in for an exam based on their recommendation.
