Can my dog safely get all her necessary vaccinations at once?

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Female | unspayed | 11 months and 19 days old | 60 lbs

I have a German Shepherd female who will be 1 on July 20th. Vaccinated for Rabies, Distemper and Parvo but I lost the records on that and the vet says they didn't keep it on file. My question is since I want to get Sandy into training can I have all her vaccinations done on one day or is that dangerous? Meaning, Bordetella, Leptospirosis, canine influenza (h3n2), (h3n8) + the rabies and Distemper /Parvo again if I can't get the paperwork..is that safe all at once? How long would it take if not?

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Sandy. That is a lot of get done all in one day. I recommends spacing them out, doing distemper/parvo, bordetalla, canine influenza one day, and then 10 days later doing lepto and rabies. Give her vet a call to make her an appointment and they can discuss how they want to space out the vaccines. I hope this helps!

Hi and thanks for posting on Boop by Petco! If Snowball has only received one vaccine since she was a puppy, she will need to be updated on the others soon now that she is 2 years old. She will need 2 rounds of the Canine Distemper-Hepatitis-Parvovirus-Parainfluenza vaccine (each round given 3-4 weeks apart) and 1 round of the Rabies Virus vaccine to help bring her up to date. The DHPP vaccine as well as the Rabies vaccine is typically given once a year or once every 3 years. Other optional vaccine such as Bordetella, Lyme, Leptospirosis, or the Canine Influenza vaccine can be given as well depending on Snowball's lifestyle and risk level for acquiring these infections which can be assessed during Snowball's veterinary visit. Hello, Lucky should be able to receive multiple vaccinations at once, but he will need to receive at least two sets of his distemper virus/parvo virus vaccines four weeks apart to convey immunity at this age. I hope this helps. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.

Mia is due for her second bordetella shot on Thursday and her rabies shot on the 18th. Am I able to wait until the 18th to get the bordetella shot or should I go early and get them both done?
It would be fine to give both at the same time in my opinion but it would be at the discretion of your veterinarian. The timing of when to go depends on her last vaccine. I would recommend you call ahead of time to check in with your veterinarian specifically as they need to decide if to proceed with the vaccines at the same time or not. Best of luck!

Great questions! Yes, I would get Ivy her kennel cough vaccine. It's best to wait two weeks between different vaccines, so I would get the DA2PPV now and rabies in another two weeks. I would start with the lepto now. Best of luck.

These can all be given on the same day. She may be sore at the sites of injection and possibly a bit lethargic for 24-36 hours afterwards. If she has had the Canine Flu vaccine in the past, she just needs 1 booster injection. If she has never had it, she needs 1 dose now and a second dose no less than 2 weeks but no more than 4 weeks after the first. It then becomes a yearly vaccine.

My dog is supposed to get his shots tomarro, I checked his records and everything is due on the 25th except his rabies shot which is due the 28th. Will it be OK if he gets them a few days early?
This can be a somewhat complicated question as it depends on how many vaccines he is getting at once, which vaccines he is getting and also how cautious the owner and the veterinarian are. Vaccine reactions in general are rare but small breed dogs are more likely to have them than a large breed dog. There are also many different vaccines. Some dogs only get 3 vaccines and some get as many as 5 or 6 depending on where they live and individual life style factors. If there are more than 3 vaccines due at once or if there is a concern for a reaction, I recommend to split vaccines up so not so many are being given at once. Pets can also get diphenhydramine prior to vaccines which can help to further decrease vaccine reactions. That being said, there are many small breed dogs who get more than 3 vaccines at a time and no diphenhydramine and the majority of them still do fine. Hi and thanks for your question. If at 5 months, this will be the first time he will be receiving vaccines, then I would recommend he receive his rabies vaccine and distemper-hepatitis-parvovirus vaccine as well as bordetella if he will be around other dogs or kenneled. He will need a booster of the distemper and bordetella in 3-4 weeks. At your first appointment with Sash's vet, you and the veterinarian can decide what other vaccines are recommended based on Sash's risk level and health status. I hope this helps!

For small dogs, I generally do recommend to separate vaccines by a few weeks. This will decrease the chances of a vaccine reaction. You can also give the pups diphenhydramine prior to the vaccines to further decrease reaction rates. Definitely discuss these options with your veterinarian. Possible side effects of vaccines are vomiting, diarrhea, facial swelling, lethargy and collapse. If your pups exhibit any of these afterwards, be sure to have them seen immediately. The vast majority of pets are fine with vaccines however and reactions are rare. Most vets vaccinate based up risks associated with life style and the diseases found in your area. I recommend to have a conversation about risk factors for your pups but I suspect they are present if your vet is recommending these vaccines. Clear communication however is always best. Most dogs are vaccinated against Rabies, kennel cough, and distemper/adenovirus/parvovirus as a combination vaccine. You can do either. Many pets are given all those vaccines at once and they do fine but you are correct that this does increase the likelihood of a vaccine reaction. If you want to be cautious, then separating the vaccines by a week is a good idea. It's never hurts to be cautious. I hope this helps.
