Why are my Siamese kitten's third eyelids always showing? Normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Siamese | Male | neutered | 4 months and 27 days old | 7 lbs

Hi, I have a Siamese kitten who is about 5 months old and his third eyelids show at all times, he is otherwise completely normal. I took him to the vet today and they said he was fine and that this can happen. I just wanted to be sure I'm not dropping the ball trusting the vets advice.

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Leroy. Oh my, he is adorable! He has the cutest cross eyes. Typically the third eyelid should not be out all the time, and it can be a sign of a problem. Now if the vet examined him and said he was fine, then it may be normal for him due to the shape of his eyes. It could also be a sign of intestinal worms, so make sure he is up to date on his deworming treatments. Please give him a cuddle from me, he is beyond cute!

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Mr. C. Other than his third eyelids being elevated, the eyes appear normal in the picture. His pupils are a normal and equal size. I do not see any redness in the eyes or discharge present. It sounds like he is acting well at home. If his attitude or appetite changes or if he begins squinting or pawing at the eyes, then I would be concerned. In this case, he will need to see his veterinarian again. Otherwise, it should be fine to monitor him at home. I hope this information helps!
