Why does my dog have red patches behind her ears? Rash or infection?

I noticed my dog has red patches behind one of her hair ears. Is this a rash or something else?

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Sophie and for providing pictures, they are very helpful! It could be a rash, but it could also be from her scratching at her ears, which is a sign of an ear infection. Without seeing her in person, I can't say for certain. I'd have her seen by a vet to have this diagnosed and treated. Best of luck!

    Oh, that does not look good! This could be infected, and it may be Prada has been scratching her ear a lot causing this. It could be she has an ear infection causing excessive scratching. I think she needs to see a vet, I would take her into one today. Best of luck.

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! These look like alopecic patches which may de due to scratching of her ears which may be due to an ear infection for example. I recommend that you have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. If this is confirmed they would likely proceed with topical therapy. Good luck!

My pup has a red rash mark on the inside if his left ear. His right ear is completely clear. He doesn’t appear bothered by it, isn’t itching it or anything. It has been there for approximately two weeks. Should I take him in? What do you think it is?

Blood patch in shoulder, back side of both the ears and other parts of body. What may be the reason? And, what medicine should be given? My doctor prescribed Cefpodoxime Proxetil tablets IP 200 mg with Prednisolon IP 10mg.
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This is possibly due to allergies. It really comes down to figuring out what is causing her allergies so that they can be treated or the specific allergen avoided. A secondary infection is likely and also needs to be addressed. The cefpodoxime should help with the bacterial infection component and the prednisone should help with the itch component. There are many things that can cause allergies though in most cases they can be broken down into 3 big categories: flea, food and environmental allergies. Allergies are usually worked up in a stepwise fashion starting with flea allergies as this is the easiest and cheapest to take care of. If not on a flea preventative, then it would be a good idea to get started on one. If already on one then it would be a good idea to change to something else (there are many new products out in the market). If not improved in 1-3 months then it is time to move on and check for food allergies by switching to a novel diet

Dog recently has missing spots on her fur, she has no known allergies, and no ticks. What is going on? Oh and she is also scratching but mostly behing her ear
Hello and thank you for contacting Boop by Petco. Sally may have ear canal infection if she is scratching mainly behind the ears. Excessive itchiness can be also related to skin allergies, skin infections or parasites. Please, take Sally to your local vets to check the skin and the ears and to start treatment for her.

Hi my 1 year old dog has some kind of rash inside both ears which is raised, grey red looking and smells a bit. I have attached a photo. Is this something I can treat myself?
It looks like your kid has a pretty severe ear infection there. The redness is inflammation and the gray area is thickening of the external ear canal from chronic inflammation. What would be best would be for your pup to be seen by your family vet for an ear exam and cytology. In order to treat this appropriately your vet will need to know if there are bacteria (and what type) or yeast or both in the ear canals and if the eardrum is intact. An anti inflammatory may also be needed because of the thickening. If ear infections are a chronic problem for your pup underlying allergy may also need to be explored. Hi there and thank you for using Boop by Petco to address your concern. Judging by your description, it sounds as though Shiloh may have a skin infection or seborrheic dermatitis possibly. Without pictures and not being able to examine the area myself, it is difficult to say for sure. I would recommend having a veterinarian examine Shiloh so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. Shiloh may need an oral antibiotic and topical therapy for treatment. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. Judging from the pictures, this could be a skin infection, skin allergy, reaction to something such as poison ivy or skin mites.
