My Golden has bleeding bumps on front legs from scratching. Why?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Male | neutered | 10 years and 1 month old | 108 lbs

My Golden has weird bumps on the back of both front legs. Photo attached. My vet said these are common and not to worry but he scratches them and makes them bleed. Any suggestions?

These look like callouses/dry skin which are common but scratching and bleeding would be uncommon and biopsy would be worth considering. Infections are common in any damaged skin so a check up to rule this out would be recommended as treatment and medicated washes may allow these to heal somewhat and seal
