My cat has mats. Can Gabapentin help relax her for grooming?

My fluffy cat has mats by her back and tail. I think they will only get worse. She will not let me brush her for more than a few seconds. I was given Gabapentin in January for her to go on a plane. Can I give her some to relax her so that I can groom her? Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 12 lbs
