Pet's info: Cat | British Shorthair | Female | spayed
I care for a feral cat she lives in my garden I recently got her spayed. I took her to a clinic she stayed over night at the clinic. She was quite active on return but I wasn't able to keep her confined to a room (runs away or escapes) She now has a swelling. Managed to get a photo here. I have shown a vet. She's prescribed me anti boitics and anti inflamatoties if no better in 2 days I am to take her in. She is eating normally. Seems normal not in pain. There is no hotness puss or redness

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Salem. The swelling is large so I am glad that you contacted her veterinarian. I would give the newly prescribed medications as directed. It is good news that she is eating and acting normal. I agree that she should be rechecked if that swelling has not significantly decreased in the time frame given to you. It is really best if you can find a way to confine her. A large dog crate may work if it is big enough for food, water and a litter box. If she starts to act ill or the swelling increases, then she will need to see an emergency veterinarian. I hope this information helps!

Yes there does appear to be some swelling there. Likely a seroma, due to leaky blood vessels just underneath the skin. No worries, because at leas the external area is sealed shut. For now I would recommend doing cold compresses on the area, if allowed to help reduce some of the swelling. Just a few minutes at a time using something like frozen peas or a frozen treat. Then get her in to your vet for a thorough exam of the area. Your vet will likely prescribe additional medication to help it heal up. It is also best to try and keep Tara settled at home and don't encourage rough play or running until seen by your vet. If Tara is acting abnormal (i.e. not eating, lethargic, vomiting, etc) in any way, then it is best to get another vet to take a look at her tomorrow instead of waiting for your regular vet on Tuesday. Best of luck with Tara moving forward. I am confident this can get resolved in the next day or two. Take care.
