I overfed my 9-week Westie puppy. Will it impact his growth or joints?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | West Highland White Terrier | Male | 2 months and 2 days old | 4.7 lbs

a 9 week old westie. 4.7 lbs, weighed last week. We have his grain free unbranded food from the breeder but what we were giving him seemed to little. There’s no advice on the bag so we researched online and took the average of 6% of his weight. We did this for two days but his stomach seemed harder and he stopped being as interested. Worrying about bloat we found out that he should have been on 30g day we gave him over 100 for two days will that affect his growth or joints What do we reduce to

As long as he is active and comfortable and able to pass stools then any mild food bloat signs should pass, a mild laxative such as cat hairball paste or liquid parafin can help. I would contact the breeder to check the brand and feeding guidelines, or transition to an alternative puppy food by mixing 25% of new food guidelines with the original diet, increasing proportion every 3-4days until change is complete. No permanent changes in joints etc would be expected after a few days of overindulgence (avoiding puppy obesity and maintaining a balanced, puppy diet with appropriate mineral and protein levels is important in the medium-long term however)
