My dog has a red eye. Could it be allergies? Can I use Visine?

Pet's info: Dog | Australian Cattle Dog | Female | spayed | 9 years and 1 month old | 36 lbs

My dog seems to have some redness on outer side of her eye. Could this be allergies and can I use visine or clear eyes to help?

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Shadow, and thank you for providing pictures, they are very helpful. I see what you mean about the redness. It could be due to allergies, but it could also be due to an infection or an injury to the eye. Do not use Visine or Clear Eyes on her, you may do harm. Any eye problem needs to be checked out by a vet promptly as leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. I'd take her into a vet today to have this diagnosed and treated. I hope this helps!
