My dog has a red eye. Could it be allergies? Can I use Visine?

My dog seems to have some redness on outer side of her eye. Could this be allergies and can I use visine or clear eyes to help?

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Shadow, and thank you for providing pictures, they are very helpful. I see what you mean about the redness. It could be due to allergies, but it could also be due to an infection or an injury to the eye. Do not use Visine or Clear Eyes on her, you may do harm. Any eye problem needs to be checked out by a vet promptly as leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. I'd take her into a vet today to have this diagnosed and treated. I hope this helps!

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! If the eye is nonpainful (no excessive tears, not blinking it a lot or keeping it closed or rubbing it) you can see how it looks in the morning. If she is doing any of the above get her to a Vet sooner than later. If the eye is still more red than the other eye tomorrow schedule an appointment. It could just be mild irritation or allergies or something more serious (a scratch on cornea, inflammation of the eye, glaucoma though I would except the eye to be painful). Lola’s eye is a little red and has had some eye buggers. Just noticed it this morning. I’ve taken her to the vet in the past for allergies, is there something I can give her over the counter to help with this?
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! While medications for allergies such as Benadryl may help, it would be best to ensure that she does not have any other reason to have eye discharge and eye redness. This could be due to an eye injury or conditions such as a corneal laceration, corneal ulcer, conjunctivitis, dry eye (also known as KCS), among many other conditions. I highly recommend that you have Lola evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Further therapy would be based on the findings. Good luck and best wishes!

My dog he has red in he's eyes
Ouch! The diagnosis will depend on where in the eye that he is red. The eyelids and conjunctiva can get red with allergies, foreign object or corneal ulcer. The white part (sclera) can get red secondary to trauma or diseases such as glaucoma. The inside of the eye can get red with high blood pressure or coagulopathy ( bleeding problem). The best thing for him would be an exam by a veterinarian. They can do some diagnostics to Check eye pressures, tear levels and check for ulcers. My dog has mucus coming from her eye and the enter corner looks red. Should I take her to the vet?

It appears that she has an eye infection, and yes you should take her into the vet. Any eye problem needs to be checked out by a vet promptly as leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. My Cocker x Beagle often has a red left eye and his bottom eyelid is dropped more than his right. It doesn't seem to bother him so I'm unsure whether I need to take him to the vet or not. A friend has suggested I use eye drops for glaucoma. Any ideas
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This could be due to an eye injury or conditions such as a corneal laceration, corneal ulcer, conjunctivitis, dry eye (also known as KCS), among many other conditions. I do not recommend that you use any medications especially the one for glaucoma before having him evaluated by a veterinarian as all these conditions are treated differently and medications for glaucoma can actually exacerbate other conditions if that is the case. I highly recommend that you have Redd evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Further therapy would be based on the findings. Good luck and best wishes!

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This could be due to something like conjunctivitis for example. However, there are some other diseases that really need a very thorough evaluation of the eye to diagnose. I think that if he has not improved on the current therapy, it may be a good idea to check in with your veterinarian. If they are concerned based on their knowledge of his case, they could consider having you consult with a veterinary ophthalmologist. I noticed one of his eyes seemed off color and seemed to be a bit redder than usual. I can't really afford to take him to the vet unless it is serious. Is it something I should have him seen for?
Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! If Shiro isn’t holding the eye closed or acting painful and there isn’t yellow-green discharge you can just monitor the eye. It could simply be allergies. If the eye is painful he sadly should be seen to make sure their isn’t a scratch, uveitis or glaucoma. I hope this help and I hope you have a good holiday!

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Thanks for the picture of Aria it helps. The redness could be from allergies or an allergic reaction. I recommend that you take her to the Vet tomorrow. After their evaluation they will likely prescribe steroids and possibly an antihistamine. If she gets worse have her seen today in emergency. Good luck!

Can u please help me try to figure out what is going on with my puppy's eyes
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! The redness could be due to irritation or allergy. If anyone is smoking anything in the house, burning incense, or spraying air freshesners, those could be to blame. It could also be related environmental allergies. Try just a regular saline drop (Blinks, Refresh contacts drops). 1-2 drops per eye every 8-12 hours. If she is squinting or the surface of the eye is cloudy it could be an ulcer or laceration. That will need a vet visit as soon as possible. Best of luck to you and Jewel!
