How to tell if my dog's gastropexy failed after stomach bloat surgery?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Collie | Male | unneutered | 6 years and 2 months old | 66 lbs

My dog hat a stomach turn on Sunday and got a gastropexy during surgery. He is no longer in any pain medication. He did a hasty moving while we were on our pee/poop walk. If his gastropexy were to tear, would I know because he would be in pain? (He is not in pain, his stomach is soft, he’s eating and drinking)

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Jack. I am so glad he survived his stomach turning! This can often be fatal, and you did a great job getting him into a vet right away for surgery. Yes, you would now if his gastropexy has failed. He would be in pain, he would be lethargic, and he would not be eating or drinking. From your description, it sounds like he is doing well. I hope this helps!
