My dog has a strange leg growth he keeps biting. What is it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 4 years old | 17 lbs

We noticed a funny looking almost detached growth on my dogs back leg. It doesn’t bother him at all when we touch it or move it around. We have seen him biting at it a few times.

Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It looks like a small skin wart. It most likely is nothing to worry about but if Teddy keeps biting at it or he will make it bleed, you should take him to your local vets for an appointment. This kind of skin growths are usually left untreated or they are removed surgically if they grow rapidly or bother the dog.
