Can my dog take cefpodoxime and Apoquel together for skin issues?

Pet's info: Dog | Belgian Shepherd | Female | spayed | 2 years and 10 months old | 70 lbs

My dog was prescribed cefpodoxime for skin issues but also she takes apoquil some days . I forgot to ask my doctor if both are safe to take together. Is there side effects or interaction between them thank you in advance

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Kaya. I can't find any drug interactions between cefpodoxime and apoquel. Just double check with her vet, but it should be fine. I hope this helps!

Hi and thanks for using Boop by Petco! Good question regarding Apoquel. Apoquel use along with many other medications has been evaluated and antibiotics with Apoquel shouldn't have any drug interactions. So please go ahead and continue the Apoquel as directed for her allergies. I hope Rae recovers well from her surgery.

Hi is it okay for my dog to take Omeprazole whilst on Apoquel ?
It is always best to discuss all medications your pet is taking with your veterinarian who knows your pet's history and medical conditions. There are no known negative drug interactions between apoquel and omeprazole.

Can my dog take prednisone and apoquel at the same time?
Yes your pet sure can. Prednisone is a steroid and Apoquel is an immune modulator drug that specifically targets the receptors on your pets skin that cause itching. In fact, right now Apoquel has no drug interactions with any other type of medication, so it can be used along with just about anything. If your pet was not able to be maintained on Apoquel alone, then a low dose of prednisone or Cyclosporine can be used with it. Also I would recommend Fish oil supplements which are natural anti-inflammatory way to help a pet with skin allergies. Any pet formulated fish oil product from your local pet store will do.

Hi are there any interactions between piriton and Apoquel
The drug information for Apoquel states that no specific drug interactions have been reported. From Plumb's Veterinary Drug Handbook: "Marketing information from the drug sponsor states that oclacitinib has been safely used in conjunction with other common medications including vaccines, NSAIDs, antibiotics, parasiticides, anticonvulsants, and allergen immunotherapy (Anon 2013b), but this information could not be found on the drug label." I would be ok with using these two medications together with that information.

These two medications can be given together without risking any significant interactions. Unfortunately I am not able to give drug dosing recommendations as per guidelines of Petcoach, but this information should be readily available in several veterinary drug formularies or by speaking with your primary care veterinarian.

Dove takes apoquel for itching when it gets bad. I figured its 1/2 pill every 24 hrs. It doesnt seem to be helping as the pill wears off becuase we give both dogs half a pill for dinner every night. So is it safe to give her benadryl to help with the
Thanks for using Boop by Petco. Yes. Benedryl can be safely used in conjunction with apoquel. But please give her vet a call to discuss her medications- they may want to increase her apoquel dose or switch to a different medication if it isn’t effective currently.

Hi is it okay for apoquel and piriton to be taken longterm together?

My vet is on vacation but I have a question about the new meds my vet prescribed my dog. My dog takes cyclosporine eyedrops ( 1 drop per eye twice a day) for dry eye. His vet also prescribed Apoquel for his skin allergy because he can no longer take
Thank you for submitting your question regarding Jersey. I do not believe it would be a problem from him be on topical cyclosporine eye drops while taking Apoquel. The eye drops would have minimal, if any, systemic absorption. I do not currently have a patient of mine on both medications, but would be willing to prescribe them together. However, if you still have concerns you can call Zoetis, the manufacturer of Apoquel. I hope this information helps!

Can I give Sofia (9-10Ib dog) cefpodoxime 1/4 of 100 mg & galliprant 1/2 of 20 mg. on the same day? Is galliprant be given on full or empty stomach?
These medications can certainly be given on the same day. No concerns for drug interactions here whatsoever. Please also continue to monitor for any signs of GI upset however from the medications themselves, which includes vomiting, diarrhea or decreased appetite and notify your vet immediately if seen. Only a small percentage of pets will have an adverse reaction to these medications. Both medications should be gien after a small meal. Can I give my dog a tramadol after giving apoquel 7hrs ago. He’s in pain with an infected toe.
Tramadol and apoquel do not have any negative interactions. If the tramadol was prescribed to Dobby then I don’t have any concerns about using it with apoquel. I would definitely encourage you to have that foot evaluated by your veterinarian soon to see if antibiotics would be recommended. Best of luck and I hope he improves soon.
