My cat's poop is bloody and runny. Is it from eating a roach?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Mediumhair | Male | neutered | 15 lbs

My cats poop has always been runny/wet since we gotten him but until today his poop had a stain of blood and I saw him eat a roach so can that be a possibility of his poop having that blood stain?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Summer. Runny or soft stool is not normal, even if it has been that way since you have had him. Bright red blood typically comes from the colon and is commonly due to inflammation. This can be due to a number of causes including an intestinal infection or stress. However, a more chronic issue such as inflammatory bowel disease, a dietary intolerance, cobalamin deficiency or even a slow growing type of gastrointestinal cancer is more likely given the extent of his issues. The cockroach likely isn't the whole problem. I recommend that he sees his veterinarian to try to determine how best to treat him. I hope this information helps!
