My cat is nauseous. Could Zevo spray or vanilla be the cause?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 10 lbs

My cat seems to be feeling nauseous today. Sitting in a hunch position. A little extra saliva. My concerns are that we have a gnat problem so I’ve been using Zevo bug spray. It’s supposed to be pet safe but I don’t know if he may have stepped in some or licked up a little, I’ve been trying to wipe it up after I spray but I may have missed some. Also spilled some imitation vanilla on the table and wiped it up. He later got on the table- I don’t know if he could have gotten some on his feet.

Hello. It is very possible that Bingley is reacting to some of the odors from your spray. Cats can be very sensitive. But if you have fairly good ventilation in your home, & you are careful in using the bug spray, I really doubt this is the problem, & I am certain the spilled vanilla was not to blame. If he continues to feel unwell, you should really have him evaluated by your veterinarian, especially if he quits eating or starts vomiting. It may be a simple illness, but without at least a good physical exam, you have no idea what might be going on. If Bingley is not feeling better by tomorrow, I do encourage you to have him seen. Thanks for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
