My dog's poop has jelly mucus and she's panting a lot. Is it serious?

Hi there, I’m here today as my dog recently started panting a lot more but as the weather gets hotter and she has a lot of fur I think that’s most likely the reason. But tonight she had a poop and I noticed that it had kind of a jelly skin. If you could help me understand if it’s anything serious. She’s an 9 years old American Eskimo dog.

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Nuvola and for providing pictures, they are very helpful. It looks like she has some mucus on her poop, which can be completely normal. I would not worry about it if she otherwise fine. Yes, increased heat can lead to more panting, and you have to be careful about her getting heat stroke. Heat stroke is fatal. Keep her indoors unless she has to potty. Walk her in the early morning and later evening when it's cooler. Always have plenty of cool water for her to drink. I hope this helps!

Hello, thank you for using Boop by Petco. You are seeing some mucous on the stool. Mucous usually occurs when there is some inflammation in the colon. In a young dog, it could be parasites, something odd he ate, or it indicates a sensitivity to something like an allergen. If he is feeling well, eating normally, then I would not be too concerned. If he has not had a stool check done, I would definitely have it evaluated by your veterinarian. He may need to have his diet changed, but I would not just start buying different puppy foods. If you continue to see the mucous, please call your vet. Take care.

Grace is healthy with all her vaccine up-to-date, I had her dewormed a month ago, recently her poop is coated with mucus like substance, what does it mean? Is she unhealthy?
Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Mucous in the stool indicates inflammation with in the colon. It can be from many reasons: intestinal parasites, viral or bacterial infection, she ate something gross outside, food allergy intolerance, or a reaction to a new food/treat or people food. One stool episode with mucous may be a one time thing. If it continues or she develops diarrhea bring a stool sample to your Vet and start a bland diet of boiled chicken or hamburger with rice. Feed 1 cup per 20 lbs per day until 2 normal stools. If that doesn't help then she should see your Vet for an exam and medications. I wish Grave the best!

Is this a normal a presence of mucus? My dog as normal solid stools and never much mucus, but I found this today and that’s the first time I’ve seen that. Is this normal? Should I be concerned?
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This is fine and nothing to be concerned about. There is always going to be some degree of mucus in the stools so as long as it does not turn into diarrhea, there is no need to necessarily be concerned about this. Good luck and have a great day!

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Poor Lou! It sounds like Lou has bad diarrhea. Crying with urgency to defecate with diarrhea is normal. Causes of diarrhea can be from: parasites, viral or bacterial infections, pancreatitis, toxin ingestion, dietary indiscretion and sometimes we never find out the cause. I agree that she should see your Vet when they open. Since she is older and has underlying health issues it would be best for her. Most diarrhea is treated with oral antibiotics. Since she is already on a "bland" diet that won't change. Since she is older they may want to run blood work. I hope this helps and I wish Lou a speedy recovery!

My dog has had diarrhea with mucus
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! I'm sorry to hear Mimi has been having diarrhea. Diarrhea with mucus can be due to a variety of reasons, including intestinal parasites, dietary indiscretion, food intolerance, or another underlying issue. I would recommend having her evaluated by her regular veterinarian, have any necessary testing done (fecal analysis, etc) and start any treatment (probiotic/antidiarrheal) that she may need to resolve it. I have a 2 1/2 year-old Shins inu and her stool is very runny with large clumps of mucus. This has been happening for about 12 hours but she is still drinking water and eating lightly. Should I be worried?
Hi there. Diarrhea can be caused by a multitude of things. Increased mucous makes me suspicious of parasites first. I would recommend taking your pup in to have a fecal. Based on the findings of this, you can choose how best to proceed after this easy step is ruled out. It may also be that Pandora has an upset stomach due to something she's eaten and has thrown her digestive system off. Think about if you have changed her food or given her anything she does not normally get. Hope this helps.

Hello, thank you for using Boop by Petco. There does appear to be a mucous coating on this stool. Typically that just means the stool was in the colon for a longer period of time. If this mucous persists for longer than 36 hours AND/OR she is acting sick, then you should take her to your vet of an exam. Be sure she is up to date on deworming. Intestinal parasites can also cause a mucous covering on the stool. If she is otherwise acting normally, you can try giving her a probiotic for a couple weeks to help normalize the bacterial population in her stool. I would recommend Fortiflora. She may end up with a bowel obstruction which could mean she would need surgery and it can be life threatening.

Hi there and thank you for using Boop by Petco to address your concern. If she is not having diarrhea but there is just some mucous covering her feces, I would monitor this for the next 24-48 hours. If there is no improvement or there is more mucous, I would recommend initiating a bland diet as outlined below. If there is still no improvement on the bland diet, you can add in a probiotic such as Purina Fortiflora, which can be found online quite easily. If there is still no improvement, I would recommend having a veterinarian examine Muffy so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. Thanks for using Boop by Petco! While this could be parasites, this is likely some degree of colitis. You can add a probiotic to her diet such as Fortiflora. You can use it for 1-2 weeks to see if it makes a difference. If it does not, you can consider switching to a sensitive stomach type diet. If no improvement, have her evaluated by your veterinarian so that the stools can be assessed. If she develops diarrhea at any point before then at that point she should definitely be evaluated by her veterinarian. Good luck!

Poor mucus can be normal! Mucus is made by the intestines to keep the lining of the colon lubricated and moist and is perfectly healthy. As long as there are no other issues with Ellie, this is likely not a worry. I think I see some normal poop under the mucus in the picture. For now, I'd just keep an eye on her. I hope this helps!
