My dog's eye is pawing and watering after injury. Should I see a vet?

My son poked my dog in her eye nearly a month ago. She has been treated by our vet with 2 eye drops- ofloaxin and corneal repair gel. I thought it was getting better and she had a painful dental so I had cut back on the amount of drops. Over the past couple of days she is pawing it again and it’s watering. Should I go back to the regular drops? It has been 4 weeks since the initial injury.

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Chloe. If she is pawing at her eye, I'd take her back into the vet before starting the eye drops again. You need to make sure there isn't a problem with her cornea like an ulcer before using any medication. I'd take her into the vet today. Best of luck.

However, there are some other diseases that really need a very thorough evaluation of the eye to diagnose. I think that if he has not improved on the current therapy, it may be a good idea to check in with your veterinarian. If they are concerned based on their knowledge of his case, they could consider having you consult with a veterinary ophthalmologist. Hello. It is always best to have your veterinarian examine any eye problem as soon as it is noticed. This can be an infection, irritation, or even the start of an autoimmune condition called Keratoconjunctivitis sicca. It may even be allergy driven. With the right treatment, the eyes can heal very quickly. The wrong or no treatment can let a simple problem blow up into a big one. So while I do use the Vetericyn ophthalmic products in certain conditions, if you have the means to have Sipsey actually examined, this would be the very best course of action. Thank you for using Boop by Petco! The signs you are describing can be caused by conjunctivitis, a corneal ulcer, allergic reaction, or foreign body. Eye conditions can quickly turn into emergencies, so I recommend having Milo seen by a vet as soon as possible. In the meantime, you may want to get Milo an E-collar or "cone" to prevent him from scratching/rubbing the eye and causing further trauma. My 12 year old Chihuahua all of a sudden (today) one of her eyes are completely cloudy. She is blinking her eyes as if she is in pain.
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! Poor little Sassy! This is possibly a corneal ulcer or infection. These can be painful and as you pointed out blinking can be a sign of pain or discomfort. I recommend that you have your girl evaluated by your veterinarian for an examination of her eyes. If this is confirmed to be an ulcer or laceration to the cornea for example, they would be able to prescribe a medication for it and also potentially something for pain as well. That is likely to be due to a moderate to severe conjunctivitis, probably secondary to a trauma or infection. A check up would be needed as appropriate treatment would include antibiotics and anti-inflammatory eye drops. Corneal injuries must be ruled out as well. Hi and thanks for visiting Boop by Petco. It sounds like your pet Daisy has a very common situation here which is a chemical burn or scratch on her cornea (surface of her eye). This is common after being groomed because shampoo or condition can get on the eye and isn't washed off properly or promptly. Poor girl. I would recommend taking her to your local vet as soon as you can to get her eye examined, tested and treated. Most pets with this condition recovery fully within 7 days time, as long as they receive treatment quickly. I hope that your pet Daisy resolves her eye issue soon! Best of luck and take care.

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Poor Baylee boo! I would have Baylee seen by your Vet today. I worry that she has a scratch on her cornea or inflammation secondary to being hit in the eye by the plant. When it comes to eye injuries it is best to have the pet seen as soon as possible. A scratch on the cornea is treated with antibiotic drops or ointment in the eye and inflammation is treated with pain medications and steroids. Unfortunately, it can sometimes take a while for an injury to the cornea (the clear outer part of the eye) to heal and some of the medications that we use to relieve pain can delay healing. I have attached more information on corneal ulcers below. https://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content.plx?P=A&S=0&C=0&A=554 I always recommend repeating the dye test (fluorescein stain) 1 week after starting treatment to make sure that it is healing and that we don't need to change medications. I would recommend having your veterinarian examine Misty again and see if the scratch is just not healed yet or if there is another problem. Thank you for using Boop by Petco! I can see a small amount of inflammation and hair loss around the eye. This is an indication of chronic itching. This can be caused by conjunctivitis, allergies, or irritation caused by an ulcer or foreign body. Your vet can rule out serious conditions such as a foreign body or ulcer, and prescribe any inflammatory eye drops or a special diet in case of allergies. In the meantime, you can get Lito an E-collar or “cone” to prevent him from scratching and causing further damage. I hope this helps and that all is well!

Since Toby has not improved on his medications, I highly recommend that you have Toby reevaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment.
