My dog's neuter incision has a soft bump. Is it infected?

I noticed this just now on my dogs neuter incision. He was neutered back in early March. He doesn’t show any signs of pain if it is touched or in general. The bump itself is a bit soft. I am very worried. What is this? Thanks in advance.

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Geralt and for providing pictures, it's very helpful. I am concerned with how this looks, it's quite red and swollen. It looks like the area may be infected. Without seeing him in person, I can't say for certain what is causing it, but he should see a vet for it. The vet can diagnose this bump and treat it. I'd take him into the vet in the morning. I have a 7 month old dog who was neutered 7 days ago. His incision scar has been healing great but now he has a red bump with dark in the middle of it.
This sounds like he may be having a reaction or mild infection from the knot in the suture. If the rest of the incision is healed I recommend gently cleaning the bump with hydrogen peroxide. Sometimes it will break open and a small amount of fluid will drain then it will heal. As long as he’s feeling fine give it a few more days to improve. What are these red bumps near his privates? I was inspecting his neuter wound tonight and found these red bumps on his right side. They are not on the other side. Do we need to go see the vet tomorrow?
Thank you for contacting Boop by Petco with your question about Momo. These bumps could be skin irritation from the antiseptics used to clean his skin or they could be irritation from the clippers. I'd keep an eye on them for now, and if they get worse, spread, or start to both him, have him seen by a vet. I hope this helps.

Hi and thanks again for reaching us out with this concern. It looks healing fine and the little bump will slowly reabsorb. It is probably best to request a consultation with us so we can monitor it every day and follow this up properly.

My dog has a small red blister on his penis shaft by where his testicals use to be.
Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco. It's hard to say with out seeing a picture or without knowing more information. If he was neutered recently or in the last few weeks and the blister is by the old incision it could be a suture reaction. There are many reasons for red skin bumps. You can gently warm compress the bump twice daily. If you can post a picture it may help. Otherwise get it checked by your Vet if it doesn't get better

I got my dog neutered when he was 7 months old he is now almost one and about a month ago we noticed a red bump where his stitches are and he drags his bum to scratch it. It is not near the anus you have to lay him on his back to see it.
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! It is hard to know what this may be without an evaluation. I suspect that this is likely unrelated to the neuter per se and this is likely due to an itch possibly secondary to allergies for example or perhaps there may be an infection going on. I recommend that you have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to evaluate him and determine what may be going on so that he can be treated accordingly. Good luck!

Hello, thank you for using Boop by Petco. I think the incision looks fine. Just continue to monitor it by checking it daily definitely keep him from licking it. Licking is the the number one cause of incisional infection. Don't apply anything to the incision and don't remove the scabs. Just leave it to heal on its own. Things to be worried about: swelling, actual discharge (pus or blood-tinged fluid) coming from the incision, lots of redness around the incision or a portion of the incision is open. To me, this looks just fine right now. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

Typically yes, it is a smooth incision, but I don't see any signs of infection. It appears to be healing from the pictures, and it may smooth out when the staples are removed. I hope this helps!

My dog had a cryptorchid neuter on Thursday (4 days ago) the incision site looks puffy. Does this need to be seen? He’s on antibiotics and pain meds.
Thanks for visiting Boop by Petco. The incision appears to be closed, although it isn't a pretty incision, it is functional. : )There is one area that has a pustule (infected pocket) there, but it should heal with the antibiotics that he is on. This is a common thing that occurs in pets that have a mild reaction to the sutures or staples placed, nothing serious to be concerned about at this time. So far, this looks to be healing appropriately. : ) Keep an eye on the pustule there, it may rupture, and if it does just wipe it with a clean dry towel and make sure the incision does not get wet in any way. Also ensure that Waffles keeps his e-collar on at all times to avoid him getting to the incision and potentially taking out staples, which could cause this to open up. With the antibiotics on board, the incision and pustule should heal completely by day 10. Keep an eye out also for any profuse drainage, separation of the incision line, or increased redness, and get this rechecke

My 10 month old lab was neutered 9 days ago and he seems to still be intact. His incision is healing well, all redness is gone but he does have hard bumps inside his scrotum. Is this normal?
Hello and thank you for contacting Boop by Petco. I suspect the hard bumps in the scrotum is swelling or haematoma caused by castration. The swelling should disappear in the next few days. However if the scrotum is painful or hot to touch, you should take Einstein to your local vets for an appointment.

This could be inflammation secondary to the surgery if she has been having too much activity though even then it is a bit too much based on this picture. However, this could be due to something else like an infection for example. I would recommend that you have her evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment.
