Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 20 years and 1 month old | 9 lbs
How can I help a deaf 20 year cat from constantly screaming at different loudness levels at unpredictive times during the day and night? He does not show any signs of physical pain and some times stops briefly when he sees me. He eats well, uses the bin correctly and goes up and down stairs with ease. At a overnight stay at the VET he did not exhibit any screaming behavior. I already tried the calming collar with no results. Do you think a dog type vest may help?

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Angelo. I have the same issue! I have an almost 11 year old Persian who has been deaf since birth, and he does this all the time. I think the reason why they do this is because they want your attention or need something, and because they can't hear themselves make noise, they unintentionally do it extremely loudly. Personally I sleep with ear plugs at night, so I don't hear him at night. I do tend to investigate during the day when I hear him, and it usually is that he wants food. I leave food out all the time for him, which helps, but sometimes he just wants love so I give that to him as well. Make sure he always has plenty of food and water, and give him lots of attention as needed. Angelo will probably hate the dog vest, but you can try it. You can also try Feliway, it's a pheromone diffuser that releases calming pheromones. I hope this helps!
