Why is my 2-month puppy retching with no vomit and eating things?

I have a 2 months old indie puppy. She's normal and active the whole day but she's been retching with nothing coming out since 2 nights. The first time it was just a little bit of white froth but as soon as I fed her some snack she got fine. She also has a habit of consuming anything lying on the floor. I'm tensed, please help.

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Kiwi. Poor girl! I'm concerned that she has been retching for two nights with nothing coming out. If she has a habit of eating anything laying on the floor, it could be she ate something causing this behavior. Because this has been going on for two nights, it's time to see the vet. I'd take her into the vet first thing in the morning. Best of luck.

Hi there. I'm so sorry to hear about Bella's troubles. Wretching in Bella's case can be caused by a handful of things. She could have an infection of some kind, or have eaten something rotten or toxic. She could have ingested a piece of blanket or toy if she is the type to chew up those things. Bella could also be hacking or coughing so hard it looks like wretching. If she was recently around other dogs, she may have picked up a respiratory bug. I would have Bella checked out just to make sure nothing serious is going on. It may just be some mild that needs some medication, but it could also be something serious starting like coming from an infection or a blockage.

My 3 pound puppy threw up three times today. Twice within two minutes and the next about 30 minutes later after giving her a little goats milk. She will wake up and start to play and bite me and then will start dry heaving for a few seconds and stop.
Poor girl. Unfortunately my major concern here is that Winnie may have a foreign body. I would highly recommend fasting her for 6hrs and then offer her a small portion of boiled plain chicken or lean ground turkey and white rice and small amounts of non-flavored Pedialyte to keep her hydrated until you can get her seen by your vet. The vet needs to do a complete physical examination and likely will recommend x-rays if a foreign body ingestion is suspected. Best case scenario is that Winnie has a really upset stomach from something she ingested and not a true obstruction. However, the next best thing is to get her seen by your vet as soon as they are open in the morning. I do hope that Winnie feels better soon! Best of luck and take care

Hi, if the retching has ceased after those 10 seconds and after Piper brought up that little bit of bile I would not worry about a possible Bloat/GDV. With bloat and gastric torsion, normally they are unable to settle, pacing around distressed and on and off retching unproductively. They are salivating, and looking very distressed. As time goes by, the tummy becomes swollen but this is not always visible until things have progressed quite a bit. Hope this helps ! I would wait and keep an eye on her, if she vomits/ retches again within the next hour, have her checked over so she could have some medications to help her and make her feel better ! If she should look distressed, panting, and pacing I would have her checked over right away.

Hi, I would definitely have him checked over to make sure that he is comfortable and resting and that he is not just getting progressively worse. Offer small amounts little and often. Unproductive retching can be a sign of something potentially serious. Hope all goes well !

As long as she is acting ok you could monitor her for additional signs. If she starts retching, seems uncomfortable, starts drooling, is painful, or the distension persists then she should be examined by a vet. Your vet can take an X-ray to evaluate her abdomen and determine the exact cause of her problem.

Retching without producing vomitus can potentially be a sign of bloat or stomach torsion. If he is acting painful, has a bloated looking abdomen, is pacing or uncomfortable he needs to go to an emergency vet asap. Other causes of non-productive retching can be a foreign body or irritation to the pharnyx or throat. However if Sparky is at all uncomfortable or painful he needs to go to a vet now.

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! I am sorry to hear Shiro isn't feeling well. Regardless of eating the sock or not, he is still vomiting, so I would recommend taking him to a vet right away. He is young and a lot of vomiting can cause dehydration that puppies cannot recover from on their own. The vet may want to check for intestinal parasites and parvo virus (common causes of vomiting in puppies) and may also take an x-ray to look for a foreign object in the intestinal tract. If no cause for vomiting is found, the doctor can treat the vomiting and replace the fluids Shiro has lost so he doesn't get sicker. If a cause for the vomiting is found, the doctor will discuss the next best steps for Shiro. Good luck and kisses to Shiro!

Thank you for using Boop by Petco! Onyx is such an adorable girl! Dogs can vomit due to many conditions from stress, to ingestion of a foreign body or toxin, eating too quickly, intestinal parasites, or viral infections. If Onyx is acting normally, you can continue to monitor her at home. I recommend holding off food and treats until tomorrow morning, and then giving her only about 1/2 of her normal portion. She should have access to small amounts of water to prevent her from drinking too quickly and causing herself to vomit. She should be seen by a vet as soon as possible if you notice that she doesn't have an appetite or energy, or begins having diarrhea. I hope this helps and that Onyx feels better soon!

Why does my 8 week old puppy keep dry heaving?
Thank you for contacting Boop by Petco with your question about Hoyt. He could be dry heaving because he's nauseous. Feed him a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If he keeps dry heaving, he vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. Best of luck.

Hello and thank you for contacting Boop by Petco. I would suggest to monitor Lola at home for the next 2-3hrs. Please, do not offer her anything to eat or drink till 11pm and then try and give her small amount of water. If she drinks it and keeps it down, you can offer her small amount of bland food (for example cooked piece of chicken). If she eats it, you should offer her more bland food and water in the morning. However, if she continues to vomit or passes liquid diarrhea, you should take her to your local emergency service tonight. Vomiting in such a young puppy is usually related to gastrointestinal infection, worms, food indiscretion, feeding errors.
