Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Miles. The vet has prescribed 100mg total of Tramadol every 12 hours. This dose is within the normal dose rate, so no this is not too high. I hope this helps!

No, this dose is within the normal range for tramadol from dogs. You can give as little as 0.5 mg/lb to 4.5 mg/lb every 8-12 hours safely. The amount he is being given is likely due to the amount of pain Binx is in, as higher doses are given when the dog is in great pain. I hope this helps and he feels better soon!

My dog was neutered yesterday they prescribed him tramadol 50mg. It says give 3 tabs twice a day. He weighs 63lb. Is that the right dose? It seems like too much.
Hi there, Tramadol has a wide dosing range. I would start on the low end and give him 100 mg (2 tablets) am and pm and see how he does. If he seems painful, you can do the 150 mg dose am and pm. I hope that helps. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.

Tramadol and gabapentin are safe to give together. Tramadol comes in 50 mg tablets. The upper limit of the dosing range for a 78 pound dog is 150 mg. However, I rarely start with the high dose. I usually start with 50 mg every 8 hours and then increase to 100 mg if you feel it’s needed. Best of luck and I hope you find the reason tomorrow! I hope he improves quickly. Hello and thank you for contacting Boop by Petco. One 50mg tablet of Tramadol is still within the dose range for his weight. Reggie may be more sleepy and quiet for 8-12hrs but there should not be any more serious side effects.

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Poor Gerson! I know you are worried but you did NOT overdose him. There is a wide dose range for tramadol of 4-10mg/kg. He is 10 kg so a whole 50 mg tablet is 5mg/kg. He is just sensitive to it. Tramadol is an opiod so he is, for a lack of a better word, a bit high. I, like your Vet, start lower at 2.5mg/kg which is the 1/4 tablet. I would watch him and in 4-8 hours he should be normal. Good luck!

My 8kg dog has eaten a 50mg tramadol capsule
There is a large dosing range with tramadol and it is a fairly safe drug so Teddy should be fine. Teddy’s max dose would be about 80mg and he ingested much less than that. You may note that he is more sedate/sleepy than normal but that will wear off in 8-12 hours once the drug is out of his system. Sometimes Tramadol can cause inappetance and GI upset as well so watch for these symtoms too. If Teddy is showing any other abnormal signs like vomiting, diarrhea, or neurologic signs, you should take him to the veterinarian immediately. It would also be wise to make sure that he did not get any more than 50 mg you are suspicious of. I hope this helps. Thanks for using Boop by Petco. Best of luck.

My beagle who is roughly 25 pounds ate a treat that had medicine in it meant for my dog who is roughly 60 pounds. The medicine was a 50 MG tramadol pill and half a medrol that says 4 MG on the bottle. What should I do?
How naughty of Buddy! Fortunately, both tramadol and medrol have fairly wide dosage ranges. Buddy consume slightly more than a typical dose of tramadol, but well beneath a toxic dose. The amount of medrol consumed was within a typical dose range for a dog his size. If Buddy is taking other medications (such as anxiety medications like fluoxetine, clomipramine, selegiline, to name a few, or SAMe supplements), there could be issues with drug interactions with tramadol. If he is taking any other medications, it may be worth calling the ASPCA animal poison control center at (888) 426-4435 so that they can determine if any interactions are suspected, as this could lead to the onset of serotonin syndrome. However, if Buddy is not taking other medications, there is likely no cause for concern. I hope that all goes well! :-)

My dog has joint pain. She was prescribed Galliprant and Tramadol. I’ve read that both medications show results within 1-2 hours. Should I give them to her together? Would morning be best? Or the night? Thank you!
They can be given together but I generally recommend giving the tramadol at night, if only given once a day. It is for pain only and can cause drowsiness. That way she will sleep better and be less painful in the morning. If needed tramadol can be given up to four times daily. Check the dose and frequency with your veterinarian to see what they recommend. The Galliprant is an anti inflammatory medication which reduces joint inflammation thereby reducing discomfort. I recommend giving this with a full meal in the morning so she can be active without discomfort during the day. Please make sure she doesn’t gain weight since that can also increase arthritis pain. Pmcreatitis is very painful, so the shaking could be interpreted as an expression of pain. Unfortunately Tramadol does not work very well for pain, not as good as in people. The Cerenia works a lot better for visceral pain. Being lethargic is also normal with pancreatitis. Under normal circumstances we hospitalize dogs with pancreatitis, however this is not always possible depending on the area where you live and whether such facilities are available. If Bombon deteriorates or gets much worse you will need to take her to a vet before Monday, or a Pet ER.

The dose for clindamycin is within the normal dose range, and the dose for tramadol is also within the normal dose range. You can ask your vet why they upped the doses for Chewy, but they are safe. I hope this helps.
