Dog has a new belly growth after grooming. Is it a skin tag?

Pet's info: Dog | English Shepherd | Male | neutered | 56 lbs

Yesterday we had our dog groomed. When he got home there was a skin tagish thing on his belly. he had long hair so when we took him in we didn't notice that it was there but he was itching in the area and we couldn't find anything. So now we know what he was itching at. We assume that it is a skin tag but we would like to find out if we need to be more concerned than that. Please see the picture below and thank you in advance.

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Casey and for providing a picture. It's very helpful! That looks more than a skin tag, but the photo is a little blurry. I'm actually concerned with how it looks, and it may be he's been scratching at it so much it's ripped open. This definitely needs to be checked out by a vet. Give his vet a call now to make him an appointment. Until you get into the vet, I'd put a bandage over it to protect it and keep him from scratching at it. I hope this helps!

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Thank you for the pictures. Sadly I do not think the growth is a skin tag. I don't like the color or the bubble protuberance. It still could be benign but it doesn't have the typical skin tag appearance. I would have it removed and biopsied. I wish you and Bam the best!

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! From your pictures it looks like a growth. It doesn’t look like a tick or an egg. Possible causes are benign sebaceous hyperplasia or adenoma or histiocytoma or a more sinister mast cell tumor. Sadly many skin growths can look the same. It isn’t wrong to have your vet check it out. I definitely would do that if it grows quickly. Good luck!

Found a skin tag on the back of my dog’s neck. Should it be checked by the vet or is this normal?
Thank you for contacting Boop by Petco with your question. It does look like a skin tag, but I can't say for 100% certainty without seeing Luna in person. It is worth getting checked out by a vet just to make sure it is a skin tag and not something more serious. I hope this helps!

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! The pictures aren't coming through super clear on my end but it appears to be a "skin tag". It could also be a sebacious cyst. Both of these are benign and usually ignored. Of course, give it a good feel about once a week, and if it gets larger, hard, or painful for Riley, it'st time to see the vet. I have a 14 year old chihuahua mini pin- He's got this on his tummy- it's growing- feels like a sack of skin- skin tag or something I should worry about?
Hi and thank you for posting your question! From the picture, it looks like a skin tag which can grow over time and become larger. Usually these are not anything to worry too much about, although if it starts to become larger, red, swollen, or infected, you may want to have your veterinarian take a closer look. You can always have the mass aspirated and a sample sample taken from it to see if it is anything concerning. That is the only way to really definitively diagnosis any mass. There’s an unfamiliar skin flap on my dogs upper tummy area. I’ve never noticed it before so I think it’s new. Do you know what it could be?
Without seeing her in person, it is difficult to say for sure what it is but it looks like a skin tag or a mass growing off of a nipple. Since it is new, it is always best to have your vet take a look at it once to ensure it doesn't need to be surgically removed. After that, if they think it is okay, I would just monitor it closely. Hello and thank you for contacting Boop by Petco. It looks like a skin tag. However, the fact that the area is bald suggests that Tripp has been scratching or biting on it. Please, monitor the area for a few days. If you notice that the tag is getting bigger or if it is bothering Tripp, you should get him checked by your local vets. In that case, surgical removal of the wart may be necessary.

Hello, & thank you for using Boop by Petco. The end of the nodule seems to have an ulcerated appearance which concerns me. Definitely have your vet take a look at this. I would recommend removal & having the tissue sent for pathology for identification. It looks like a full excision should be curative. Hope this helps. Take care.

I just found an irritated bump on my 8 year old Maltipoo. I noticed it about a month ago but I thought it was a skin tag as he has developed a few of those now that he is older. It looks worrisome and he is clearly irritated when I try to get a close
Thank you for contacting Boop by Petco with your question about Ringo! I see what you mean about the bump. It could be a growth of some sorts, either benign or malignant. Any suspicious bumps should be examined by the vet. The vet can perform a test called a fine needle aspirate on it. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the lump to get a sample of its cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. Once the cause of the bump is diagnosed, the vet can discuss treatment options if needed. I would give his vet a call in the morning to make him an appointment. Best of luck.

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Thanks for the pictures! Some benign skin bumps, especially sebaceous adenomas can produce discharge. If the bump has been oozing puss and blood it is best to have your Vet re-evaluate it to either: 1) shave the fur, clean it and provide antibiotics or 2) discuss removing it since it has changed and now may continue to be a source of irritation and infection for Cooper.
