My dog's paw pads are cracking deeply. Why isn't paw butter working?

Hello my dogs paws are all cracking, thete are acfew pretty deep cracks, I've been putting paw butter on them a few months but they are getting worse. Not sure what to do.

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Tina, and for providing pictures of her paws. They are very helpful. I see what you mean about the cracks, and it may be that she has an infection causing this cracks. An infection would explain why the paw butter isn't helping and they are getting worse. It's time to see a vet. The vet can diagnose what is causing these paw cracks and can prescribe medication to treat them. Give her vet a call now to make her an appointment. I hope this helps!

My dogs paws are dry and cracked, what's the best option for him?
Hello. We need to know why Max's feet are dry & cracked. This could indicate a bacterial or even a fungal cause. Until you can have him evaluated, you can wash his feet in a skin antiseptic like Hibiclens ( available at all pharmacies ), dry well & then apply a very light coating of Vaseline. Try to do this at least 1-2 times a day. If no response within a couple of weeks, do see your veterinarian for further recommendations. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.

Should we be doing anything with the pads of pilots paws? They just feel dry and crusty so I’m curious.
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! For dry pads you can use a moisturizing cream such as the one made by Tomlyn which you get from amazon. It works great for this scenario. It is hard to know if this is truly needed without being able to see it and examine it though this is usually a good option in most cases. Good luck!

Fraying front paw pads!
Hi there and thank you for using Boop by Petco! From the pictures, it appears that Freya has hyperkeratosis of the paw pads. This condition does not cause any major problems and is more of a cosmetic problem. You can try and file the overgrown pad by using a dremmel (I recommend having a veterinarian or veterinary technician do this) and then try to help prevent this from occurring by using dog booties and BioBalm by Dermoscent (can be found online). Bertie is limping, I think he has cracked / pictured his front left paw pad. I’m bathing it in hibiscrub and putting Vaseline on. How long will it take to heal?
I would bring Bertie to the veterinarian. I don't see a crack or cut in the paw but without an examination on this paw it is hard to say. His inter-digital area between his pads are inflamed which would lead me to think he is licking. Your veterinarian will be able to perform an examination and see what is going on. What’s wrong with her foot pads?? I’ve used moisturizers like paw pad and it’s not helping. Is it a fungus? What will help? Should I cut it off? Use peroxide?
IT seems to be affecting her nails, i suspect it might be a fungal infection, you will need to take her to the vet in order to get it checked and treated, do not use peroxide, do not cut it, get it diagnosed and treated properly by your vet.

Why is my dogs paw ripping ? What could cause paw issues? Does not walk on hot ground. Any at home remedies ?
Thank you for contacting Boop by Petco with your question about Clover. Poor girl! This could be caused by an injury, an infection (fungal or bacterial), allergies, or a nutritional deficiency. She should see her vet for this problem to diagnose what is causing it, but it's not an emergency so you can wait until tomorrow. Clean the paw pad, and examine it closely to see if there is any foreign material in it. When you clean it, use warm water and an antibacterial soap. Apply a bandage, and make sure it's not too tight. Put a sock over her foot and bandage to protect the bandage and to keep her from chewing at it. You can secure the sock to her leg with some medical tape. Keep the area clean and dry, and take her into the vet tomorrow. Best of luck.

My dog has a split pad on her paw, no bleeding but obviously causing her discomfort
That does look like it would cause Kaya some discomfort, but it doesn't appear to be infected. I would have her seen by a vet for this, as a cracked pad can be a sign of a medical illness such as a liver problem, allergy, endocrine problem, or an autoimmune problem. It could also be due to an injury, but it would be good to rule out another medical cause. The vet can diagnose if there is any medical cause behind it and how to treat it. I would have Kaya seen by a vet on Monday.

I’ve purchased a blind pit bull /lab a couple months ago and his paws werent in the best condition. They were red but not as bad at now . I haven’t been able to get his shot records from them so I can’t take him into the petco to get his nails clipp
Thank you for contacting Boop by Petco with your question about Ray. Poor boy. They are a bit red, and it may be he has allergies or an infection causing the redness. I would have this checked out by a vet, and while there, you can get him vaccines. It doesn't look like he need his nails cut at the moment. I hope this helps!

It seems Bini developed an antibiotic resistant organisms or antibody of anti biotics...if I continue the same antibiotic medicine for a longer time can she be cured of the bacterial infections pictures I attached.. she has infections inside her paws
Thanks for using Boop by Petco. The antibiotics are probably not working because there is another underlying problem such as allegies. Or perhaps it is not healing because Bini is licking at it constantly. I’d recommend an E-collar at all times for at least 7 days and talking with your veterinarian about adding a course of steroids to decrease swelling, inflammation and pain. If this really is a resistant bacteria, topical antiseptics such as chlorhexidine or betadine will be more effective. Soak the foot in a diluted solution of one of those once to twice daily for 5 minutes, then dry very thoroughly. Best wishes to you and Bini!

I was just playing fetch with my dog outside on a dirt area. It looks like the middle part of his paw pad started peeling off. It doesn’t seem to bother him much, if at all.

That has really peeled back, and likely will need to be removed. I would not try to remove it yourself, it could hurt him and he may bite in pain. I'd take him into a vet now to get this part of his pad removed, to get pain medication, and to get antibiotics. I hope this helps!
