My dog's blood test shows high neutrophils and left shift. What's wrong?

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Male | neutered | 62 lbs

Rocco has a high level neutrophilia with left shift and monocytes. White blood cells are increased immature neutrophilia CBC slightly elevated. What tests are necessary and what do you believe is wrong

Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It sounds like infection. I would suggest 6-7 days of antibiotics treatment and then repeat the test. Alternatively, sending off blood for a smear evaluation will be a good option to differentiate infection from other (rare) causes of neutrophilia, like neoplasia and bone marrow diseases.
