My cat has a bald spot on his ear after white liquid. What happened?

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | unneutered | 3 years and 8 months old | 6.8 lbs

My cat got some kind of white liquid on one of his ears 2 weeks ago, i tried to wash it off, but it didn't come off fully. Now 2 weeks later he has a tiny bald spot there and the liquid is gone. He does not scratch that spot at all. I carefully inspected it and it is not red or infected at all. Its just a tiny bald spot, that seems to be slowly regrowing hair. On the picture i included the spot looks red, but in real life the spot is pale just like his skin color. Any advice is appreciated.

I see what you mean about the bald spot, and I agree it looks like the fur is regrowing. Honestly, I would do nothing. It doesn't look infected and fur is growing back. Just leave it be. It could be Jumi just injured himself leading the bald spot, but it doesn't appear red, swollen, or any other signs of infection. Just keep an eye on it for now, and if it gets bigger, the fur doesn't grow back, it starts to appear infected, and/or it starts to bother him, I would have him checked out by a vet. Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This could be due to ringworm. This could also be just a focal skin bacterial infection, among other possibilities. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check for these possibilities and treat accordingly. Ringworm can be transmitted to humans so just in case this is what is going on with him, wear gloves when handling this lesion. Good luck and best wishes!

Thank you for contacting Boop by Petco with your question about Meatloaf. This could just be from an injury. It's small, and I don't see any sign of infection, so I don't recommend a vet visit at this point in time. I would leave it be, and see if it heals. Give it a week, and if it still looks like this after that time, then have her seen by a vet. I hope this helps!

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! It is hard to know for sure based on these pictures though this is possibly a normal pigmentation change. If it is not associated with itchiness or discomfort, there is no need to be concerned about this. If you ever notice any discomfort or itchiness, have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Good luck and have a great day!

My new cat has a small patch of hair missing on top his head by right ear he has had since we got it and hair don't seem to grow back is this normal or should I be worried ? He does not itch tho at all but I have a 2yr old who loves to play with him
Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. From your description, this may have been secondary to trauma or a previous infection and the hair is not able to grow back because of damaged hair follicles. If the area is red or inflamed, I would recommend having a veterinarian examine him so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. Otherwise, I would monitor for now and if the area worsens I would have it looked at sooner.

Hello. It is very difficult to know exactly what this might be, but it does resemble a healing abscess. If she is constantly licking the spot, then you might want to put a light Elizabethan collar on her to prevent further self-trauma. But, if she is not bothering the area, then just keep an eye on this for the time being. Anything you put on it will just get her licking it off & perhaps doing more damage to the skin. Any additional concerns, it is best to have your veterinarian physically examine the skin for additional possible treatment. Thanks for contacting Boop by Petco.

Hello, and thank you for your question. It looks like Doobie has caused some trauma to the bald patch from scratching. Possibilities include a skin infection (bacterial or fungal), ear infection, parasites such as mites, or underlying allergies. I would recommend taking Doobie to the vet to pinpoint the underlying cause. They may recommend an ear swab to check for an ear infection, and a skin scraping to check for mites, At minimum, they can prescribe antibiotics and anti-inflammatories to treat the itchiness. In the meantime, I would place an e-collar (cone) on Doobie's head to prevent him from scratching the area further. I hope this helps, and that he feels better soon!

Thanks for using Boop by Petco. It looks like he just has a small scratch/scab in this picture. If he is scratching or rubbing his ears a lot he may have an ear infection which would warrant a vet visit.

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This is likely a small focus of infection and inflammation secondary to him scratching. Things to consider as a possible cause is underlying allergies. It really comes down to figuring out what is causing his allergies so that they can be treated or the specific allergen avoided. There are many things that can cause allergies though in most cases they can be broken down into 3 big categories: flea, food and environmental allergies. Allergies are usually worked up in a stepwise fashion starting with flea allergies as this is the easiest and cheapest to take care of. If not on a flea preventative, then it would be a good idea to get started on one. If already on one then it would be a good idea to change to something else (there are many new products out in the market). If not improved in 1-3 months then it is time to move on and check for food allergies by switching to a novel diet (new protein and new carbohydrate). If that does not seem to be the

He may have gotten excited seeing the squirrels and moved suddenly, causing some fur to snag and pull out. I would just keep an eye on it for now.
